Date: 12/10/11 9:51 PM i made a quilt that made log cabin squares that were about 3 feet in diameter. it was 3 squares across and 4 down. the pattern was in a quick quilt mag that i think i accidentally gave away. i'm hoping to locate the magazine with the patterns to use to make smaller quilts for a local nursing home. i've searched the internet for directions, with no luck. does anyone recognize this or have a suggestion as to where i could get similar directions? tia debbie |

Date: 12/11/11 0:47 AM At first I thought you were saying each block was three feet, and if you multiply that by 3 squares across, that would be 9 feet, and it would be some quilt! But I think you're saying each block is twelve inches, making the quilt three feet across by 4 down. If you were to cut your strips at 2-1/2", then make a three log Log Cabin, you would get the size of block you want. Quilter's Cache is a great place to find free log cabin blocks. Here is a 12" block:
12" log cabin block You can use less strips if you cut them wider, and cutting them wider will also make the blocks bigger.

Date: 12/12/11 10:00 AM Over 20 years ago there was a series of quilt patterns called Quilt in a Day. It sounds like the oversized Log Cabin pattern would fall into that category.
Check out Eleanor Burns website and see if you recognize the pattern. she does have a Log Cabin one there as well as many others.
I made a Around the World one back in the 80's. It did take more than a day, but was a quick quilt to do. ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student |
