I got an idea for a neat jacket for DH to wear on Patterns & Notions...Kwik Sew 2000. Now I want to find quality cordouroy to make it since I ordered the pattern Tuesday. ...Does anyone know where they have nice cordouroy? Hopefully it does not break the bank. .... Thank you! ...

Subject: Looking for quality cordouroy for mens jacket Date: 12/14/11 11:56 AM

www.fabricationsonline.com had some nice gray awhile ago. Not the cheapest place, but I love them. I recommend them so much ppl will think I work there. I do NOT. I actually heard about them in a mens shirting post & I think Voet told us about them. Great quality fabrics, great customer service, and free swatches!

I've made this with a featherweight corduroy and a mix of cotton flannel and featherweight corduroy, but I would wonder about the collar points with a heavier weight.

I do have a mixture of cotton and wool I'm thinking about using with this pattern.

Kwik Sew has a blazer pattern I would like to try in heavier cord.

There are times I think I should just buy my clothes and make all of his. They have a traditional pajama pattern that my husband loves (wants some more as of last night) and he wants a robe for himself in fleece, the Kwik Sew robe...and that jacket with all of the zipper pockets I'm making now for him.

(Be careful what you start.)

I can't agree with you more! Cutting their hair, and sewing for them are two things I've done that I wonder "what was I thinking?"

Oh my gosh!! My husband has me cutting his hair too.

I know just what you mean. I really want to sew for him and I think some of the men's wear is good sewing experience, but he does seem a bit mildly spoiled.

Me too I am cutting DH hair. .... I enjoy sewing for him as long as he uses the item. .... dresses for myself... nah I do not like that. ....

Thank you everyone for links for cordouroy. I kinda like the deep blue that Skae had posted... we both love BLUE ....

Do you think should use a different coordinating fabric for the collar?

I've never tried that, but if it would would work with the fabric. I just don't know of a fabric that would coordinate with a heavier cord, unless it was a suede, moleskin, twill maybe.

Try the pattern in another fabric a time or two to get the feel for the collar, the button placket on the front of the shirt and the sleeve/cuff placket.

It just seems bulky to me.

But a shirt without the packet on the cuff could be finished with a thinner coordinating fabric, and a simple foldover front placket. I'm just thinking reducing bulk from the heavier corduroy, and men can be hard on those shirts not thinking of the time and pin pricks into fingers, and the collar points will go.
