Date: 12/15/11 7:21 AM I found a heavyweight pink-and-black buffalo plaid at JoAnn's perfect for a shirt for my aunt (who likes to wear shirts over whatever she is wearing at home in winter). I looked it over carefully, brought it home, washed and dried it, and cut it out carefully matching the plaid. I had the perfect pattern in my stash so I was pleased with how well the project was proceeding.
I "improved" the pattern by adding menswear-style plackets on the sleeves. I constructed the cuffs and collar. I sewed in the pleat in the back then held it up to see how nicely it fell in the heavy flannel. Awk! Then I saw the threadbare spot, a soon-to-be hole in the middle of the back.
I went back to the store but they had no more of my fabric. I spoke to the manager who checked his PDA for inventory in other "nearby" stores. He did some phoning around and located a bolt with seven yards. (While waiting I was coming up with a plan to save the project if I could not get replacement fabric as I had invested a lot of work on the project up to that point). Then he volunteered to pick up that bolt that night to have at my store the next morning. I was shocked by his kindness. True to his word, the next morning I went in an got one-and-a-half yards of fabric at no cost, enough for shrinkage and matching the plaid.
The shirt finished up beautifully. I sent it to my aunt as a Christmas gift (along with other gifts to her and my uncle). Like little children they opened up their gifts already and she loves the shirt!
I was not completely surprised by the poor quality control for the fabric from China sold by JoAnn's and would not ordinarily have bought it, but it was really perfect for my aunt. However, I really was surprised by the service I received from this manager. |

Date: 12/15/11 1:19 PM So - we all want to know at least the state you live in! Then we can hunt this guy up. Yes, I agree - write to Joann's corporate. I do think they are having a pro-active thrust in their customer relations for sure. I am pelted with coupons and let to use gobs of them every time I shop - I love our Joann's now. ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."
