As you can see I'm brand-spanking-new to PatternReview, and I just purchased a Pfaff Ambition 1.0 machine last week. I love most of the features and I'm hoping to grow into it. However, I am trying out the buttonhole feature (it has a special foot, etc) but the sides are uneven and the whole thing looks like a giant mess.
It's supposed to sew the bottom of the hole first, then the left side, then go back down to the bottom and sew the right side and the top. The problem is both that it doesn't go far enough on the left side and then when it goes down the right, it goes past the bottom and then finishes the buttonhole such that it's offset.
The book says they recommend a stabilizer, which I understand, but this doesn't seem like something a stabilizer would help.
It looks something like this:
------ <---end of top, where it turns to go back
= | <---stitch that goes to the bottom so it can turn back
=== <---end of stitch
= =
=== <---beginning of stitch
=
=
=== <---bottom where it turns to go back up the right side

Subject: Help! New Pfaff Ambition 1.0 doesnt do buttonholes properly? Date: 12/15/11 3:30 PM There is a pull-down lever to the left of the foot that you need to manually engage. Have you done so?

Date: 12/15/11 4:51 PM I hadn't (wasn't in the instruction booklet I was looking at) but even with it engaged it's still too short on the left side. Looking at the fabric movement, it's not moving as much on the backward movement as it does in the forward. |

Date: 12/15/11 5:59 PM A stabilizer can make a difference-just a piece of interfacing will help. I am not familiar with this machine (maybe someone who is will answer) but if I were you I would put a piece of interfacing between the pieces of fabric and follow the manual to reset all the settings exactly the way the manual suggests. Many machines have a density setting-that could be making a difference but I think something is not set right. It sounds like something simple unless there is something wrong with the machine. |

Date: 12/15/11 6:29 PM I'm not familiar with this machine, but on my machine (I have an Elna Diva) I need to use interfacing and place a tear away stabilizer beneath the buttonhole as well. Also my machine has an adjustment for the stitch density if the sides of the buttonhole are not equal. ------ Brine |

Date: 12/16/11 2:59 PM Well, I tried resetting everything and no love, so I will probably take it back to the store tomorrow and have them check it out for me... annoying but maybe there's a software update or something? Anyway, thanks for the advice, everyone. =)

Date: 2/8/13 10:45 PM Can I ask what you paid for your machine, and what part of the country you live in? I am this close"" to buying this machine, but I'm not sure $900 is a fair price. Thanks! |
