Date: 12/16/11 12:33 PM This just a question about what has happened to JoAnne's? Is it my store or a national thing? I shop there because it is close. But the staff has always been less than helpful (with a few prize people thrown in) and the fabric just so-so. Well. The last few trips there - I have been astonished.
The staff have, every single one of them, been friendly, helpful, cheerful. Even the Saturday after Thanksgiving when they were nuts, not a frown in sight. Also they now have a rack of premium quilting cottons, and I founds some suiting that was quite nice.
It is starting to freak me out. Who are these people and what happened to my old JoAnnes??????

Date: 12/16/11 12:51 PM Maybe they finally got smart and decided to compete with the quilting stores and the better quality fabric stores? Some of their suitings are indeed nice now and not all that lousy poly. Lets hope this is the beginning a new trend for them to carry nice stuff so we can all go on a shopping spree and spend, spend, spend. That is a win-win for all of us. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.

Date: 12/16/11 1:17 PM I can only hope that they've had someone keeping a quiet eye out on what people are writing in blogs and forums (both bad and good), and trying to fix the problems. And I would hope they'd reward those stores that have had good comments in the past already. I've read some of the bad experiences, and am thankful that even though small, the store I go to has good employees.
I say "quiet eye" because I haven't notice many (any?) comments back from anyone at Joann (corporate level managers who have the power to change policies) trying to explain away any unfavorable comments. |

Date: 12/16/11 1:22 PM I do believe that the mood of the employees is directly caused for the most part by their employers. In the period of about 15 years ago to about four years ago our Joann's was really hard to go to. People who worked there weren't happy. I do know at one time in the early part of this period they worked under a terrible manager. There was almost a fear of helping customers. Then all that changed and people seem pretty happy to work there. Since it seems this has happened in other places, I can only assume corporate has been driving a more pro-active customer service agenda, and for all I know they also have told people to treat the employees much much better than in decades previous. I do not like to shop where people aren't treated right, so I didn't shop at Joann's for a very long time. In the last few years I go there almost every week! :) ------ "Be kind whenever possible. Date: 12/16/11 4:45 PM Maybe they are temporary part time holiday employes, and theyare more fresh and new and have not got all worn out and frazzeled yet from years of being in there I say that as I have bought fabric from Joann's for just years and years, and it looks like it would be a pretty tough place to work at, for a very long time. Things like people with all the coupons, and coupon issues, and not having good sissors (they always seem to have dull old fiskar's in there to cut their fabric with, and when I suggested they just break down and grab some new Ginger's off the shelf to use, they told me they were not allowed to ever do that) and such, is probably not all that great for employee moral.
But I do think the Manager of any place always sets the tone in any place, at that moment of time. Maybe they just have a good Manager now, so maybe the employee's are happier and it just even shows. |
