This will be a first for me, sewing for a little girl and it's a gift. I am making this pattern in the leftover fleece from this coat specifically. Jalie 2679

Are the sizes generally good based on age? She is 6 1/2 but tall and thin for her age. I don't have and can't get measurements so I'm going on a guess here. I was thinking about making the size associated with size 8.

Can anyone give me a guide? I'd be so thankful!

If she is 6 1/2 I would go with a 7 . My granddaughter is 6 1/2 also but she is short. I made her a 5 in that.

I found I needed to go up a size or 2 for the skinny girls, and 3 sizes for the "normal " girls. More for the chunky ones. I am a chunky woman, and I go up 2 sizes, as I don't like negative ease on me!

Can you find out what size she's in RTW? If she's close in size to my 7yard year old, I can give you her measurements.

Numbers for 2013:
Yards in stash: 606.25
Yards in: 22.75
Yards out: 10.50

Numbers for 2012:
594.00 yards in stash
4 yards in
10.25 yards out

Numbers for 2011:
601.25 yards in stash (I'm sure this number is off by a few yards)
Yards in: 137.50 (Seriously? I'm over 100, and it's only JULY? Ugh!)
Yards out: 88.75

Thank you all! I did end up getting measurements!!! I didn't think I could. Crazy thing is she measures for a 5 in age in the coat. I think I'm going with a 7 though. She is tall for her age.

I made Jalie 2795 (not the same but similar) for my tiny 7yo cousin. I used her measurements and ended up making a 3 width and 5 length. It was a perfect fit and she loved that she had a jacket that FIT.
I would base the size on what she wears under. Mine was designed as a close fitting jacket for gymnastics warmups. If you want her to wear anything bulky underneath, go with the straight 7, otherwise think about making a 5 or 6 width and then keeping the 7 length. I found it very easy to adjust when tracing and all the notches still lined up.
