Date: 12/19/11 1:39 PM Trying to do some research for an older couple friend of mine. She currently has an old White 4 thread serger. She has no problem threading the loopers, but she cannot see well enough/is not agile enough to thread the needles. Her husband used to be her official needle threader, but now he is having a hard time doing it too.
He would like to surprise her with a new serger, one with a needle threader built in. I am assuming that price isn't going to be a problem for him, but being the frugal person that he is, I am sure he wants something with good bang for his buck.
Any recomendations? |

Date: 12/19/11 4:26 PM I have the Bernina 1150MDA. It has a needle threader which works effortlessly each and every time. I love it!!!! This machine also has the MDA feature which is invaluable and not something you see on other machines. I don't understand why all machines don't have this. It's very useful and not a marketing gimmick, even if Bernina make it sound like it is. It's an overall great machine, not just the needle threader. ------ Belinda. Melbourne, Australia

Date: 12/19/11 4:33 PM Well doggone it! Somebody finally got smart! I can't stand to thread my serger needles; I fuss and fume every time. Oh well, no Santa in this household, so I'll have to wait a while for this machine. ------ "Having to squeeze the last drop of utility out of the land has the same desperate finality as having to chop up the furniture to keep warm" -- Aldo Leopold

Date: 12/23/11 6:01 PM Janome 1100 and 1200 have needle threaders that come with them and are fairly foolproof, but they're not built in as in attached to the machine. |

Hi, Belinda -- Curiosity overcomes me (when I should be doing a million other things). What is the MDA feature? ------ Yahoo group: Sewing with Industrial Machines

Date: 12/28/11 1:33 PM For those who cannot afford a new serger with a needle threader, this trick always works for me. I have a stainless steel button ruler (a little six inch ruler) and I prop it behind the needles. It reflects where the holes are.
Then I always use tweezers--one to poke the thread through, and one to catch it on the other side. I can thread almost any machine needle on the first try when I do this. -- Edited on 12/28/11 1:34 PM -- |
