Would like help finding a dress pattern...
I want to find a dress pattern like the one Maggie Gyllenhaal wears in Nanny McPhee

It's a vintage style tea dress I think (its knee length, the skirt is fairly straight, perhaps a slight flare). I really like the simple lines and feminine shape, without it being to clingy or too loose. I like the curved empire line and the v-neck, and like the smooth (not gathered) skirt - not sure if I am explaining that correctly! I have scoured the Pattern Review site for something similar and although I have found a number that are fairly close, none are almost the same.

The closest is http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/35830, but I don't like the gathered front or the sleeves.

http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/44542 is also similar, but the empire line is straight.

Another close one is http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/13365, but the front of the skirt looks like it wouldn't lie flat

Found a few more with parts that looks OK, but nothing that is really that close. Any one out there with any suggestions, or even a better description of what I am looking for to help me Google for more ideas? Many thanks in advance!

How about http://www.simplicity.com/p-6472-misses-dresses.aspx (View C) but with longer sleeves and an added collar?

I like that dress, it would be very fashionable with a certain retro crowd. It would be something that I wouldn't mind having a shot at making. The topic caught my eye because I'm a fan of Nanny McPhee, it has a phenomenal soundtrack which I've used for music for a number of years.

The pattern posted would be a good one to start with especially for the bodice, but this is the sort of dress that calls for frankenpatterning. You'll find the curved empire waist from one pattern and the bodice from another.

Here's another pattern with a similar feel:

Favorite Things Prairie Girl Dress

But I agree with the others: if you want an exact match you'll very likely have to combine several patterns.

You're probably going to have to frankenpattern. Simplicity 2601 is a good match for the upper bodice. It even has the little collar all drafted for you.

Thank you everyone for the responses - looks like mixing patterns is definitely the way to go, not tried that before so it will be a new experience! ;)
