I'm so thrilled over such a mundane purchase....

My back has been killing me every morning on my old mattress, and even the sides of my torso. But this morning it was really bad and so we decided today was the day.

We went to a totally local furniture store (not a chain), and purchased a Made in USA Stearns and Foster mattress. Latex line, no inner springs. It was like a medium you could say in the hard to soft range, and not a pillow top. We got a decent discount for paying cash. So I was glad to be going local.
Since you can't flip them anymore, I wanted as much latex as possible in there for longevity. And I couldn't feel him move on it, which is another reason we went latex. He tosses and turns and it drives me insane.
Delivery is Christmas Eve!!

This is trulywonderful isn't it! Oh yes, a mattress makes such a difference in sleep quality and body mechanics and health. It's a worthwhile investment!

That's not a mundane purchase. It is something you use every single day, and how well it works affects the rest of your life.

Absolutely a huge, important purchase. We got ours about a year and a half ago and it was a brilliant decision. Enjoy it!

We have a local mattress maker, too, and they also do a latex version--but theirs is actually *flippable!*

We inherited a beautiful queen rice bed two years ago and it came with an older, but not much used very hard mattress. I thought it would be fine with a 3 inch latex topper.
I am just too excited that DH agreed to this sort of expensive mattress. But, he let me pick it, saying he'd be happy on anything, and wants me to be pain free.
I do recommend anyone doing any research to go google the mattress expert blog. There, this guy just answers questions. At his brick and mortar, all the employees are trained on sleep science. If you give him basic specs, and what your sleep problems are, he'll tell you a lot about the mattress, and a link to that same mattress on his site - as well as suggestions for your sleep problem. He's one of the reasons I decided to go Stearns and Foster, and latex.

No this isn't a local mattress maker, but a Stearns and Foster, which is a brand name. However, the guy I mentioned in my above post, the mattress expert -- he does have a flippable latex mattress that he has made special for them. I wonder if they are the same?
I really considered that route too -- DH likes having flippable. But, not being able to at least test the firmness and such, it was out of the question. I would want to test it in person.

That is very welcome news for your achy body. What a great Christmas present to yourself. Sweet Dreams!

We are going to need a new mattress before long too. I have been eyeing the Tempur-Pedic matress. Sounds similar to the Sterns and Foster. Wonder how they are different?

My DH is a rock and roll sleeper too. Some nights I have considered that I really ought to be wearing a helmet for my own protection. The Tempur-Pedic mattress is supposed to neutralized all this activity and is made of some kind of space age foam. I do know that Tepur-pedic has a Swedish/Danish connection and the foam is supposed to be very cool. ( A must for this menopausal body.) I will have to check out the Sterns and Foster too.

I had one of those space beds once - I was pretty young at the time - and I got rid of the bed because it made one of the other things done in bed impossible!
