I have whined a bit over the past year about my work schedule, bosses etc, but this past week has put a lot into perspective.

Job number #, my job share partner's dad fell off a ladder on Monday, he is a professional gardener and was pruning a tree. The short 10 foot fall has left him with a broken neck, back (luckily he is not paralyzed), and 3 broken ribs. He was having surgery yesterday morning. Her mother is suspected of having her cancer back and spreading fast.

My boss at job #1 has had a number of health scares. She was called into her doctor, she thought for a lecture on her triglycerides, but found out her liver enzymes are out of whack. This is just after a breast cancer scare.

Job # 2, Friday was a busy day as we got orders ready for Christmas. There were supposed to be 4 of us working. One did not show up as she is in the hospital hemorrhaging. She has had cervical cancer in the past. She is a single parent of 2 lovely girls and will spend Christmas in the hospital.

The 3rd person got a call from her daughter at 9:00 am to say she had a very sore throat. She is now in the hospital with an abscess on her tonsil. The eldest son is supposed to host his very first Christmas dinner tomorrow and 1/2 his family will not be able to attend.

And personally my DH has been coughing for a couple days, he has a current out break of shingles and has finally agreed to get his cough checked out as he is in so much pain with it. The walk in clinic is closed today, so we will have a long wait at emergency. ARGHH why didn't he go yesterday to our clinic?

I know many here have had health, financial and other hardships over the past year. Many of our trees will not have as much under them as in past years.

I want to thank the entire pattern review community for their support of each other.

Michelle

Michelle - I know what you mean. Former boss recently had a stroke and an old friend had one as well. Both expected to have full recovery, thank goodness. Dear dance teacher away for a long holiday with family because she is on a month break from chemo, which is basically palliative. We don't expect her to be with us next year.

DH's business partner lost a dear old friend (father figure, really) just a couple of weeks ago. DD's father in law recently revealed he has prostate cancer. There are more, but I can't actually remember them all.

Feeling very grateful that we have dodged the tummy bug my boss' kids have been passing around!

My Christmas is better than I thought it would be. A yahoo vendor that I occasional buy from lost her mother yesterday after a long bout with illness. We are all healthy and have stuff under the tree, even if there are no big boxes.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this holiday season. It is not always a time of great joy and plenty for everyone. We all must make the best of what we have in spite of the reality that it is not always easy.

I have worked as a volunteer shopper for a national program called Warm the Childrenwhere every $ donated goes to the kids and the sponsoring agencies collect nothing for their services in organizing etc. The gratitude shown is touching beyond words. You realize how hard some people work to barely get by. In comparison, my issues seem minor.

So, I wish each of you a Happy Hanukkah or Merry Christmas as the case may be. May the warmth of the season fill your hearts.

My Uncle died a few days ago leaving his wife behind, she's in her late 50's. He died very suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep.

The good thing is it was in his sleep, but the sad thing is it's so close to the holidays, she will remember. Blessings to you and your auntie.

My deepest sympathies ~ I have just passed the one year anniversary of my DH's death so I can appreciate how difficult this is for your family and especially his wife.

The best gift anyone can give your aunt is to be there for her and be sure she is included when they get together. Moving ofrward is very difficult butit helpsto have some love around you.
