Does anyone find they need music or TV or some sort of noise in the background when they sew?
I find if I don't I get bored, my mind wanders and I make more mistakes. And that what I listen to influences what I make.
I like 'folk' music (no that's not all jumpers and beardy blokes with guitars). I'm trying to choose traditional tunes/songs to match the historical clothes I'm making.
Its mainly bands like Bellowhead, Spiers and Boden etc.
And ceilidh/dance bands.
Closest I've been to Jane Austen-esque dancing

So do you listen to music while you sew and what bands/tunes/songs/genre? Do you think it helps?

I almost always listen to the news while I sew, but I always listen to music while I quilt.

I listen to RFI, international Fr radio over the local channels because programming is more like NPR than just news/commercials/music.

I get interviews, movie critics, writer interviews, music from around the world...

So, yes, I do need background noise even if I can get lost in the sewing and "miss" a lot, LOL!

Depends on what I'm doing.

I listen to a lot of historical drama movies while I sew. If I listen to music it can be anything from Buddy Holly to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Sophie Ellis Bextor, and all points in between.

Since DH, though, it's been zombie movies and country.

I recently purchased a simple desktop for my sewing room. I can listen to "mindless" TV shows when I'm working. Sometimes I listen to audiobooks but that takes a little more effort to follow. If I listen to music, I listen to techno or classical songs. Doing anything with techno on really helps me keep up with the pace.

I keep my radio on in the sewing room to block out the barking dogs across the street. It's usually set on the "oldies" station, but I get my most enjoyment out of listening to Andrea Bocelli. I love his Cieli Di Toscana CD.

Funny you should mention dogs. I leave the TV on in the other room to keep mine entertained.. But with all the natural noise I get I don't have a TV on in my sewing room. I want/need all the peace and quiet I can get.
I can't stand background TV noise at all. But do love to listen to music .. the more upbeat tunes help to keep me awake.. Love listening to the oldies too.

I liked watching tv until my computer had to go downstairs, now just listen to music. Usually our local rock station, used to also listen to Pandora when I had the computer.

I like to listen to music while sewing, tracing patterns, cutting out or the planning stages of a project. When embroidering with my Brother& Babylock they make thier own noise so adding music can be a bit much.

I found the same thing. I never used to listen to music while sewing, but I started a couple of months ago, and unless I'm doing some kind of math thing (like flat pattern measuring), it makes my sewing time even more enjoyable! I just have a little speaker mounted under my computer monitor, though. I thinking about getting a nice set that I can plug my Droid into for a really awesome listening experience :D

Favorites? I like folk, too. Right now I'm really enjoying the new June Tabor/Oysterband CD Ragged Kingdom.
