I'm going to borrow some books from the library to check out which ones I prefer re fitting/adjustments patterns but in the meantime I was wondering if any one had a link to a good website with instructions on how to adjust the shoulder seams.
The shoulder seam sits high at the neckline so needs to be reduced at this point (is ok at the sleeve seam)
Can you post a picture? That way we can see how your shoulders are shaped. Could be you need to make a narrow shoulder adjustment. I just take a ruler and mark the amount I need to reduce, about center of the shoulder(front and back). Example: I usually make a one inch narrow shoulder adjustment(mine hangs off the shoulder). I make two marks an inch apart on the shoulder, cut about 5 inches down and make and L cut over towards the armhole, leaving a little hinge. At the shoulder, fold the marks to eliminate the amount needed. You will notice the entire area will move into place. Tape it together and WA LA it fits OR, you could be using a size or two, too large in the neck/shoulder area.

If it sits ok at your shoulder point, but sits up at the neck, your shoulder is squarer than the pattern. Bring the shoulder edge up higher and raise the armhole accordingly. It will make it drop down at your neck edge. Much easier to adjust at the shoulder then to mess with the neck.
