Date: 1/1/12 9:15 PM I just purchased a Topaz 30.
My old sewing machine is a 10 year old basic, manual machine.
I have successfully figured out how to make the Topaz sew, but now that I am trying to play with the embroidery function I am having ZERO success.
Here is what I am doing:
(usb stick attached)
1. Attach embroidery arm
2. Turn on machine
3. When prompted, hit ok to calibrate
4. choose design
5. choose 120x120 hoop
6. attach hoop
7. press start
The machine then begins to try embroidering OUTSIDE the hoop. Granted, the hooped fabric is NOT under the needle at any time during the above process...i have been assuming that it gets there automatically, as there doesn't seem to be any manual way to do it...BUT it ISN'T happening automatically.
I assume I am doing something wrong and missed some step along the way, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be VERY appreciated!

Date: 1/1/12 9:47 PM The sewing machine defaults to the smallest hoop size the design will fit in, but allows me to change the default to the hoop I plan on using.
I have 3 hoops...120x120, 200x200, and 360x200.
I have been choosing the 120x120, each design has been smaller than that.
(I have tried with 3 designs -- two purchased from Etsy, and one that came with the machine.)
Is this where my error is? |

Date: 1/1/12 9:57 PM I would check the manual. That should tell you how work the embroidery unit.
Hope you can figure it out soon. You will have lots of fun using it.
I know i like mine. I have a pfaff 2140/2170 machine.

Date: 1/1/12 10:04 PM The manual isn't helping. Have both followed directions and looked in the troubleshooting section. Nothing helpful. |

Date: 1/1/12 10:51 PM Did you buy this from a dealer? If so you should get support and the dealer should help you to learn your new machine. I hope you do get the help you need.

Subject: New Topaz 30 - Cant figure out how to make it embroider in the hoop. Please help!!! Date: 1/1/12 11:06 PM For the design that came with the machine that you are trying to use, what are the dimentions of the design? The machine should automatically centre the design in the hoop and from their you can use up/down arrows to move the design into position. Check if your machine has a trial feature. It moves the embroidery arm to show the outside dimensions of the design. For the designs that were purchased, depending on how they were saved the machine may not be able to centre them properly. Do you have fabric in the whole 120x120 hoop with stabilizer? The hoops are specially designed that if your design is larger than the hoop attached the machine won't sew. If your machine came with organizer software pull up the design on your computer and print a full size template. Then you'll be able to see where it will embroider. ------ Janome10001, Babylock ESG3, Brother ULT 2001, White 634D serger, Pfaff 1472, Singer featherweight, Singer 14T957Dc, Bernina FunLock 009DCC coverlock, Brother PQ1500S, Janome CP900. |

Date: 1/2/12 12:25 PM I am using a small design. I definitely fits in the hoop. The unit doesn't center the hoop under the needle -- it doesn't move the hoop at all before it begins stitching. It just starts stitching into nothing, with the hoop moving to the left of the needle. |

Date: 1/2/12 8:12 PM Turn your machine off and remove the embroidery unit. Turn in over and look for a red plastic piece on the bottom. If you see it, pull it out. When the Viking machines come from the factory this is piece is inserted to lock the embroidery arm so it won't move during shipping. Once you remove it, attach the embroidery unit and turn on your machine. When you press calibrate the arm should move and then when you slide the hoop on, it should be under the needle.
If this is not the problem, I would contact your dealer for assistance. |

Date: 1/4/12 9:44 PM That was it. Thank you!
I actually figured it out before I read this post -- and then felt REALLY dumb because the I remembered reading someone telling me to take it out. (I thought it was referring to something else.)
After the red thing was removed the unit worked, but still did not calibrate consistently. I just got it back from the dealer who says the problem is solved. I haven't had a chance to test it, but have high hopes.
Thank you everyone for troubleshooting this for me! |
