I think the title and description about say it all. Does anyone know where I can buy some wide linen or linen sheets to make a duvet cover from?

I did find this place (linoto), but I don't find the $400 price tag too appealing.

I'm happy to piece as well (probably with 8 yds of 54in. wide fabric). Still, if the fabric weight is right it would be ok.

Tom. I have been buying linen recently.. Yes, its expensive and for the life of me I can't figure out why its so expensive.
I googled up a few sources.. and just don't remember specifically seeing any wide enough for a duvet cover without seams in it. However if you are willing to seam it where needed you can do this much cheaper than 400 dollars.
One source I use has several different weights .. Let me go check my bookmarks and see if I can get you the info for them specifically. 54 inches wide is definitely no problem to find though.. its a standard home dec size..
There is always ebay....

Thats it.. its fabrics-store.com. All weights and I do think a few color choices there.. Good luck..

Edited to add. that must be the best place to buy..its the only one I have bookmarked under linens.. The do have all weights, colors , and some prints.. Also be sure and check out the bargain section on that site..
I am sure you will find what you are looking for there.

You might want to check this site - close out site for home dec fabrics, lots of linen prints but it looks like most of it is standard home dec width and would require seams.

Debbie,

Thanks for the links.

I got spoiled sleeping on hundred-year-old linen sheets when I lived in France. There is nothing better! While the initial cost seems ridiculous, linen sheets last for generations, making them no more expensive over time than cotton, especially since today's cotton sheets don't last the way my mother's did. I've already told DH that linen sheets are at the top of my Christmas list for 2012. I hope the quality today equals that of our ancestors.

Thanks for all the advice. We'll probably be getting some swatches from fabric-store.com and go from there.
