I am making a top that has a french dart. I need to increase the width of the top beginning just above the waist down to the hem, of course the french dart will be affected at the side seam. What is the easiest way to add width to a garment with a french dart? How do I handle the french dart when adding the width?

best accurate way is adjust your paper pattern. To do this add more paper to the side you want bigger, fold out the dart and draw the amount you want to add down the side seam, cut along the new line making sure the seam allowance is included. Then unfold the dart and this should be ready to go. Make sure you add even amounts to the back and front side seams , this keeps the proportions right.

Thanks, Netty for your response. Sometimes I think too hard before I make adjustments. I did make my adjustment exactly how you suggested - very logical for darts - and will cut out another muslin today.
