Is there a reason that you need to make the pattern? You might find a pattern suitable in patterns and more on this site.

Alternatively another person on the youth progra might be able to lend you their singlet so that you could trace the shape?

I made one for my son once by just tracing off the one that fit him and adding seam allowances. It wasn't hard to do.

I've used Glad Press and Seal to make patterns off existing clothing. I made a bathing suit with it. It worked awesome.

Jalie patterns are great though! I have the boys gymnastics one to make up for my DS.
