Date: 1/7/12 11:33 AM I was planning to sew my way through the weekend.
I was making a second pair of Jalie yoga pants out of a lovely rayon stretch double knit to wear to work. I like to coverstitch all of the seams. I was in the middle of coverstitching the inseam (tricky to get that leg fabric all bunched up) and there was a VERY LOUD clunk! The entire part that holds the needles seems to have broken away from the machine and the looper bar with automatic threader is detached!
My machine is still under warrenty so it will either be fixed or replaced but the technician said he MIGHT be able to save my pants! Really? They were looking so good and this was the last 1.5 yard of fabric from this online retailer. The poor pants just looked like a messed up wad of fabric once it left my sewing room and was on the counter at the repair shop.
I think I'll go for some exercise to clear my head and take my frustration down a few notches. ------ Barb

Did you clear your head is your frustration down a few notches.
Did you hear anything from the dealer?

Date: 1/11/12 6:58 PM I picked up my machine today. It seems to be in working order. I told the technician it was like having one of my kids away at a 3 night sleepover. It's good to have her back at home. I haven't done any stitching but the post repair sample looks good. I think my yoga pants also survived.
What I learned from this...
1)You can only jamb so much fabric through that 2 inch space on the BCLS before it gets caught up in the needle bar and causes the machine to STOP!
2)Coverstitching to topstitch the inseam might not be a brilliant idea even though it worked in the past.
Off to finish the pants. ------ Barb

Date: 1/12/12 0:29 AM Oh my goodness, you made my heart stop for a second when I read what happened! How scarey. I have never head of that happening, although I have heard of needle threaders totally falling off machines (not coverstitch machines though)
I hope your baby is better than before and back to sewing in no time flat.
I just had my coverstitch wrecked by a removalist company- broken thread stand, machine won't sew. Sad, waiting on insurance claim, but I swooped in on a Bernina cover and chain 009DCC and LOVE it. If the old machine is a write off they can reimburse. If tis repairable it will be sold to someone else as I do like the new machine more. ------ Will quilt for fabric!

Date: 1/12/12 9:19 AM Crazy!!! Glad it's ok now. So the pants were salvaged? Because that would really burn me, too, to scrap a project. ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |
