Date: 1/8/12 10:45 AM Hello!
I have noticed that Bernina's bobbin cases now have a gold finish on them and just wondered if this was merely a cosmetic change or are the bobbin cases structurally different from the all silver bobbin cases.
Thank you.

Date: 1/8/12 11:03 AM I like to have one of each so I know which one is for bobbin work. I do not know if they have changed all of them though. ------ formerly kirstensews

Date: 1/8/12 12:09 PM I also do not know if it is a total change. They had both colors in the past so people could alter the tension on one for free motion or bobbin work and keep the other for regular sewing. I believe (correct me someone if I am wrong) the only difference was the color to help tell them apart. |

Subject: Berninas new gold-colored bobbin cases Date: 1/8/12 12:25 PM Is the whole case gold now or just the side tension spring portion? I do know that they make them with different color latches for different things. Black latch is the case meant for heavier threads in bobbin work and the the gold latch (rotary, 9mm) is for embroidery module.
Here's the link to show what they have for bobbin cases on their website (if you haven't already seen it)

Date: 1/8/12 12:36 PM It is the only the latch part that is gold. When I asked the salesperson, she said they were switching over to the gold-latch bobbin cases. That is why I was wondering why they were changing over.
Thanks for the replies.

Switching over? Argh. Besides being a tad more expensive, a complete replacement of the chrome bobbin cases defeats the whole point of the colored latches-- which is to help the user distinguish between lightly, standard, and tightly tensioned cases at a glance.
Sigh. I suppose we could learn to actually tighten and loosen the little screw. -- Edited on 1/8/12 2:15 PM -- |

Date: 1/8/12 1:35 PM I first saw that on my 165E and then on the 220 and 630E that I have. I haven't neccessarily noticed any difference. I did get the black latch for bobbin work though. ------ So many projects, not enough time

Subject: Berninas new gold-colored bobbin cases Date: 1/8/12 1:47 PM So do the bobbin cases actually differ from one another in any way other than appearance? Or do latches differ in color only to allow us to have them adjusted for different threads? ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |

Date: 1/13/12 10:50 PM The gold latch bobbin case for embroidery is different...it has a little spring looking piece in the top for the thread to pass through. It helps tension problems, at least it helped a little on my Artista 180. But this is certainly not " new", so I am not sure that it is the gold latched case that is being discussed now? ------ Raye Ann

Subject: Berninas new gold-colored bobbin cases Date: 1/14/12 11:51 AM I have never owned a Bernina but it seems from the link that Copyright posted that Bernina states which bobbin cases are specific to which models of machines and it depends on if the machine has an oscillating hook that goes back and forth or a rotary hook that spins totally around.
If uncertain as to which type of machine you have you can watch the bobbin as you sew to see how it functions. I think all of their new embroidery models are rotary. |
