How to adjust on armhole princess?

I'm doing a muslin for an armhole princess blouse. The pattern has the A,B,C D cup so I'm going with my usual size 10 for the shoulders and a size 12 with the C cup. My shoulders are barely 4 inches. Even the size 10 is way too wide in the shoulders and even down to the armpits on the front and a couple inches down on the back too. Even going down to a size 8 for the shoulders is still too wide. Normally on a regular blouse I can make the correct alterations tapering down to the armholes but with a blouse with a front and side front I'm not sure how to do it and couldn't find anything in my FFRP book. What should I do?

I make the adjustment on the front, where the shoulder is. Let's say you need to take out an inch(I also have 4 inch shoulders), at the top of the shoulder(about in the middle), make two marks an inch apart and a mark in the middle of the two one inch marks. At the middle mark, slice down about 5 inches then over to the armhole...the cut will look like an L. Do not cut through the armhole, leave a hinge. Back at the top, fold your shoulder so the one inch is removed. You will notice how the entire L moves. Tape in place. I like this method because it doesn't mess up the shape of the armhole.

Okay think I got it. Do McCalls generally run large in the shoulders?

It generally depends on the size. The larger sizes are graded out everywhere, including the shoulders. And not just for McCall's.
