Date: 1/16/12 2:27 PM Apologies. When I opined that it was a "great price", I should have said "too good to be true". Bernina 8 Series are the bait in many craigslist scams, and escrow services will not protect you.

Date: 1/16/12 2:55 PM When I've seen some of these too good to be true offers for Bernina (the scammers really seem to favor the Bernina brand), I ask for the name of the original dealer of purchase so I will be able to follow up with service. It is a reasonable request as this is information you would want, whether you are in the area to continue to use that dealer for service or whether you simply call to find out when the machine was last updated.
I've seen many ads where (what appears to be) valid sellers include a copy of the original invoice.
If the price is scarily low and there is no offer to provide evidence of purchase, be very, very leery. If you get this wild explanation of the seller's sister working for Western Union (or someplace else) and how convenient it will be for you to send your payment there since they are out of town on business, or had to unexpectedly move, etc., etc., run like the wind.
If it does happen to be a local sale and you decide to look at the machine, take someone with you. But, if it is a local sale, you should at least be able to call the Bernina dealers in your area and give a minimum of information to find out if a machine was legitimately purchased in the first place. There are times when these ads blanket the country with the same exact machine picture in the same exact setting.
Best wishes. -- Edited on 1/16/12 2:56 PM -- ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct. |

Date: 1/16/12 3:03 PM Thank you sooo much, so far I asked some questions and offerd to pick it up in person and to pay directly at the time of sale. Let see what, I'll get for an answer..
the other option I was looking into Bernina Viruosa 153QE, resale by the dealer for $899 ( I guess+tax 13%),
what do you think about it? |

Date: 1/16/12 4:14 PM No one would sell an 820 for $1700, that has got to be a scam. At the most it could be 3 years old, and worth at least $4k. They're about $7k new. ------ Bernina 830 ✂ Bernina 630 ✂ Bernina 1300MDC ✂ Babylock BLCS ✂ APQS Millennium ✂ Juki TL2010Q ✂ Singer 201-2 ✂ Singer 301 ✂ Singer 401A ✂ Singer 15-91 ✂ Singer Featherweight 222K
