Subject: Will full bust adjustment be included? Date: 1/18/12 1:30 PM

Is it advisable to take the Full bust adjustment class prior to taking this class?

quiltingmom -- If you are not familiar with making a FBA, then yes, it's a good idea to take that class first. However, it isn't absolutely necessary since most of the class focuses on fitting a muslin on the body rather than just making pattern adjustment. However, if you are full busted, doing a FBA will keep the pattern in better proportion to your body usually.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Nancy -- great! I'll be posting some information about selecting a pattern early next week, too, if that's helpful. I look forward to working with you.

I'm primarily interested in the fitting of sleeves and the shoulder/neck area. Will those be covered?

By the way, I just bought your new book on fitting. I haven't had a chance to read it carefully yet. But the book looks like it's going to be terrific, and that's why I'm so eager to take this class.

Nancy -- Yes, the sleeves (and armholes, since you need to have a well-fitting armhole for the sleeve to be comfortable) and shoulder/neck area will be covered.

Thanks for getting my new book. I hope you enjoy it.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Subject: Schedule Question Date: 1/23/12 2:18 AM

I am super stoked about this class but, I work evenings this month.
I haven't taken a class online yet. And I am a little confused about how the classes work. If I miss the entire class chat times, can I still get the information and ask questions to you? How can I make this work for me, because I really want to take this class!

Thank you, thank you.

Hi Kaboom Sewer,

Pattern Review classes have several components:

This class has 16 lessons that are in PDF format. You will get a password that opens the lessons, and you can download these onto your computer and save them or print them out. My lessons vary in length, and I use lots of photographs and illustrations to help you understand the information. Most of my lessons you can read in about a half hour to one hour. In this class, the lessons with the photos showing you how to fit will take longer if you really study the photos. I post one lesson a day for the duration of the class.

We will have a class discussion board, and you can post questions there at any time. I try to answer my posts twice a day, and sometimes more frequently. You can see everyone’s posts, and sometimes you can learn quite a lot from other people’s questions. I will keep the class board open for two weeks after the last chat, so people who are working on fitting can continue to get my feedback. If there are a lot of questions still coming in at the end of these two weeks, in fitting classes, I often keep the board open for a few more days.

There is also a class photo gallery, and if you would like, you can post photos there. If you let me know via the class discussion board that you have posted photos, I will give you feedback and advice about how to improve the fit. Even if you don’t post photos, you can learn a lot from others who do.

The chats are each one-hour long. We will have a designated chat room, and this gives people a chance to ask me questions and get my reply right away – all typed in. There is often excellent material covered in the chats. I usually let student questions drive the direction of these chats. The transcript from each chat will be posted – usually the next day – so if you cannot attend the chats, you can read through the transcripts and of course ask questions on the class board.

For this class, there is also an optional video component. Each video is usually 2 to 4 minutes long, and I use them to illustrate a technique that I feel might be better conveyed in action rather than by the still photographs in the lessons. If you get the video option, you will have access to them via the PR website as long as they are on the PR website; they are not on a disc that is sent to you.

I hope this gives you a full picture of how the class will run. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Subject: Pattern Selection Date: 1/24/12 3:23 PM

Hi Sarah:

The pattern listing was very helpful and I have chosen to go with the top you will use in class( NL 6483). A couple of questions:

1. Will the finished muslin serve as a sloper or base top from which I can apply my fit changes to other patterns? ( i.e. if I do a high round on this base will I do a high round on other patterns?)

2. Will we first make up the muslin right out of the package without any changes and then see what the fit issues are? Not sure why I'm asking this... maybe just trying to get the process clear in my head!!

Thank you!!
Nancy
