Date: 1/18/12 11:48 PM Anybody else out there notice that JoAnns flannel is narrower this year? I'm now making a baby quilt from 2 pieces of flannel from my stash. One piece is newer & I've had the other piece a couple years. When I went to pin everything i noticed one side was narrower. At first I thought I screwed up in the placement of the fabric sandwich layers. Then I rechecked & discovered my older piece is definitely wider by 2".
This past summer i made up a couple dozen receiving blankets & noticed they were narrow then too, but didn't give it much thought until now. I wonder if this is a JoAnns thing now or whether flannel from a quilt shop is now narrower too? Dang I'm really glad I didnt try to make a crib sheet out of the narrower fabric because it wouldn't make it under each side of the mattress. Please tell me i can still get 44-45" wide flannel & it's just JoAnns raising the price of their price of flannel by narrowing the fabric instead. Boo hiss. |

Subject: JoAnns Flannel now only 42 ? Date: 1/19/12 0:02 AM It's not just Joanns, I bought some designer flannel ($10.00) a yard and was also 42" wide. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 1/19/12 9:01 AM Flannel has been getting narrow for a while now. It's hard to place patterns on some of it. I've noticed most material is getting more narrow. It's been a chore just finding 45" anything. I think the last time I got something that was 60" was on the Wal-mart $1.00 table some years ago. |

Date: 1/19/12 12:39 PM Thanks ladies, I was afraid of that. I looked At some online fabric sites & there is definitely a mix of bolt widths. Fabric Depot has flannels at 42" and some at 44", so I think I'll order some of the wider width online when I need it. Not sure how long those 44's will be available tho! |

Subject: JoAnns Flannel now only 42 ? Date: 1/19/12 1:28 PM I noticed it too when making pj pants. The pattern wouldn't fit. I had to cut it out crosswise and add bands on the legs. Luckily I as making pj that no one would see. It irck me that I will not have to buy 3yd of flannel for pj pants, that will make them expensive. |

Date: 1/25/12 7:37 AM I've purchased PJ flannel that looked great in the store, but after pre-washing, it has no body and gets fuzzy. How do you know?
Stopped in at a new JA's while on holiday, shocked at nothing-special knits for $20/yd and again one cutter for 10 in line, but I gotta keep checking, as I got 2 GS's from non-sewing relatives for Christmas! |
