Date: 1/20/12 12:51 PM I bought this used, and I LOVE the way it flattens seams (even powernet seams will flatten, and my old Rowenta steam iron didn't even make that lay flat), BUT it smells bad as soon as it starts to get hot. My husband says it's a silicone smell, and I thought it would go away but no such luck. I bought it used, so I just wanted to ask anyone else who has this brand if theirs smells, too? If so, then can anyone who has a GFS that doesn't smell bad let me know which brand it is? Thanks - I am really sold on the GFS, it's just that I really can't stand the smell this one makes :-(. ------ The picture is of my dog, Hailey - I'm usually the one taking the pictures, so have no recent ones of myself!

Date: 1/20/12 4:48 PM I have a Silver Star, and yes, it smells... different. I would describe it as a "hot" smell, and somewhat industrialish. DH is more sensitive to it than I. |

Date: 1/20/12 5:11 PM Hi quathy, thanks for your response! I wonder if another brand would not have as much odor - maybe someone will know here? Once I decided I liked the way it worked so much better, I've been wanting to upgrade since this one has no heat shielding and makes my hand way too hot after a while. I've seen that some folks think the best one is the Naomoto (but it's expensive) and I don't know why (unless it's that it's difficult to find parts for some of the other brands). Does anyone know why and also whether it would not be as smelly? ------ The picture is of my dog, Hailey - I'm usually the one taking the pictures, so have no recent ones of myself!

Date: 1/21/12 12:05 PM ... and I wonder if it is the metal heating up, the silicone rest pad? Thinking about it, I often don't use the water, so I don't think it would be from the demineralizer. Does anyone know? |
