Date: 1/21/12 6:13 PM Wow! What a great husband!! I can tell you you are buying an excellent sewing machine. The decorative stitches are beautiful. It feeds fabric very nicely. The FHS is wonderful, as is the foot pedal with the needle up/needle down feature. I assume you are a quilter. You will want a 5.5mm stitch plate, a straight stitch plate, the walking foot with 3 soles, #37 patchwork foot and extra bobbins to start. ------ ~Diana~

Should have added that you'll want to get the rhythm of their sales and coupons. There will be something here for Super Bowl weekend. -- Edited on 1/21/12 6:26 PM -- ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct. |

Date: 1/21/12 6:26 PM Congrats! That's a great machine! Bernina has 20-25% off coupons for feet and accessories a few times per year. You might also find savings on used feet on SewItsForSale, a yahoo group. For piecing, you might like the #1 or #34 foot with the needle moved to the right, at least until you get a #37, but maybe even instead. ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |

Date: 1/21/12 10:03 PM I bought my 440 used. It was my first modern Bernina. I never took the classes the dealer offered, but we get along fine. I don't do embroidery, and I have to get out the manual every time I do a buttonhole, but I'd say it was easy to learn. A blog called "A Dog Named Banjo" has several tutorials on the 440, most or all of which will be applicable to the 450. There are also the yahoo groups "Bernina Land" (also called the numbers group, since it covers all modern Berninas) and "Bernina Auroras", which is less active. There's a forum called Bernina Central. So a lot of help and support out there. But I highly recommend the Mastery Classes through your dealer. The classes I took with my 820 were fabulous. ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |

CONGRATS on both your DH and your machine.. Both are obviously good choices.
