Date: 1/21/12 9:51 PM I think you'll find a lot of satisfied Dharma customers here. Your question is sort of open-ended, because they have a huge variety of silks - different weights, different types.
And they are the go to place for dyes, imho! I feel very lucky because they're local for me, and whenever I'm near them & have the time, I love to drop in for inspiration. ------ http://jillybejoyful.blogspot.com/

I've learned a great deal from the Dharma website about dyeing and different varieties of silk. They're terrific, and often funny too. When I placed my first order with them, the usual can-we-email-you question was phrased as offering an infrequent newsletter containing "new product information, techniques, and life-altering textile news." Because it made me laugh I checked Yes--and it really was infrequent. ------ Jeanne

Date: 1/22/12 0:25 AM Highly recommend! I started dying silks after I saw it demonstrated on a TV show in the 1990's. In the days before the Internet, Dharma was one of the few sources always listed in the back of craft books regarding dying and painting fabrics... and they still very often are.
NAYY, just a happy customer. |

Date: 1/22/12 11:27 AM Also consider their clothing blanks for dye practice.
My mom wears silk jersey tanks during the winter for extra warmth. She used to pay $50 for them either at a local sportswear shop or at landsend.com. Neither place had them this year, so I took a gamble and ordered a few from dharma in their clothing blank section. The quality was equal to her older ones at a far cheaper price.
She wasn't interested in dyeing them this year, but I might try it out for next winter. ------ Elizabeth |
