Not having luck finding info

This morning I got up, while it was sleeting, and the proceeded to stand outside in the rain in the name of vintage patterns and fabric. ( Only you guys here at pattern review understand that this is, in fact, not as crazy as it sounds.) I found 4 patterns there from the late 1800s, early 1900s for $12 so I picked them up. Coming for the internet generation, I assumed I would come home, google it, and have all the answers at my fingertips, but alas it has not proven to be so easy.

One of the patterns I bought is to make silk stockings, but I am having no luck finding similar patterns on the interwebs. It is produced by Butterick and dated 1899. The pattern number is 1200.

Can anyone help me what any info on this pattern, or any similar to it? I personally did not know that a pattern for such existed. It is unprinted and contains 6 pieces in total, as well as brief directions. The pattern states to cut the stockings from silk.

wow - those are interesting! I recently had a friend asking me exactly about sewn socks. He is diabetic and is wanting to make his own compression stockings.

Are you looking for more patterns like these or instructions or??

Here is one pattern for sewn stockings. If you google the company name, Kannick's Korner, more sources for this one pattern turn up (including Amazon), and they note that the stocking can be made of various knitted fabrics, like silk jersey, or bias-cut wovens like linen.

And if you want to go all the way, here's a link to designing and sewing (or knitting) your own fitted stocking.

I have the instructions for these. I was actually just looking for more info about the pattern in general, as I didn't have much luck finding anything similar from the period. I am trying to decide to keep it, or if I should sell it, for some more fabric money, lol. As much as I love vintage patterns, I like usable ones, and I would be too scared to sew with one so old. ( I bought 4 more from this time period as well.)

I've never even heard of such a thing, although I knew there were sewn stockings.
