Date: 1/22/12 1:56 PM I'm working on an FBA for this dress (with the sleeves)

and I've done the upper part of the bodice and I think I have a good fit but can't really tell because I don't really know what to do with the midriff section.
Do I just add length to the sides so it goes up to the armcys? Or do I raise the midriff to the armholes and lengthen it so it goes to my waist? If the second option is the better choice, do I just create a new curve under the bust?
Am I making any sense?

Date: 1/22/12 2:41 PM I'm not quite sure what you are asking(I'm visual ). If you are wondering how to make the midriff work after spreading the upper portion of the bodice for the FBA, I would just make a cut on the midriff(under where the bodice darts are on the picture)and spread it the amount you spread for your FBA. I don't understand what you mean by "add length to the sides so it goes up to the armcys". The FBA doesn't normally change the armhole. |

Date: 1/22/12 4:52 PM Thanks for replying despite my confusing question. I went ahead and did what you suggested and it came out too big but that's my fault- I need to start with a smaller size.
thanks again. |

Date: 1/24/12 4:09 PM I don't know if the print is going to make it too hard to see the fit but I feel like I got what I wanted out of this pattern. I also know that adding the skirt will help keep the bottom of the whole bodice sit better and such.
How does it look?

I felt like the sleeve head was too long and marked with black sharpie where it felt better.

Date: 1/24/12 4:40 PM How does the sleeve feel? Could be you needed to make the shoulder a bit more narrow, rather than pulling in the sleeve cap. See how on the other shoulder(without the sleeve)the garment falls off your shoulder? I couldn't tell if it was like this after you attached the sleeve. Did you take a picture of the sleeve, before the "adjustment"? It's hard to tell, but is your side seam pulling towards the front? You are right, it will make a difference, once the skirt is attached. You can see a difference in the bodice, once the sleeve is attached. Thank you for posting your progress. |

Date: 1/24/12 4:56 PM Is the bodice supposed to be higher in the back? If not, that should probably be adjusted before adding the skirt. Can you photo the back? |

Date: 1/24/12 11:10 PM Thanks you two for replying.
I have a hard time getting pics of the back but I did notice that the front was dipping lower than the back- only once I saw the photos. It's easy to adjust.
I think, in trying to widen the midriff section, I made it too wide for my waist (didn't think that would be possible!) and I'll need to adjust that as well before sewing on the skirt.
I spent a good portion of this evening working on the actual fabric. I completely forgot to cut the midriff on the bias when doing the muslin! I won't forget that again.
