Every day I find myself checking sewing blogs I saved as my favorites. I love to read and learn. I have found some very successful blogs that really inspire me, or at least kept my interest. I thought I would trying blogging, but found I am not really sure how. First, I can't seem to format like I would like, or have seen in others. Second, I feel I have nothing to say of interest. I then started thinking, how do you blog? How can you create an interesting layout? Where do you even start? I have searched the internet on hows, but found nothing. I looked for tutorials on setting up and getting started and really didn't have any luck. You might ask, why do you want to blog? I guess I want to blog to watch my own journey of sewing thru out this year. I want to see if I can progress in sewing this year. I want to actually document my sewing journey for me. So how to start, what to do....suggestions!

Mary - I started mine because so many people had told me I should document how I make my gowns. I got SO much help online both here at PR and on other sites when I started, I decided to do it this time.

Since I am just documenting and not "being a blogger" I really haven't done anything with designing the site or making things exciting or interesting. I have far too many things in my life to add another time-consuming activity like that. It is just out there and if people want to find it, they can get to it from PR or my facebook sewing friends.

A couple of things I have found are that uploading photos and actually posting is far less time consuming than I thought it would be. Not much harder than posting a message here and much quicker for posting photos. I can load them right into the blog in no time. I don't have to go to a web based system and navigate through it, which I have never worked out very well.

The other thing is that I am really enjoying seeing my own works step by step. I am amazed that I started this project in October, for example. If anyone asked, I would have said I have been at this for a couple of months, but it is getting close to 4 months now!

So, like anything, I think you need to examine your reasons for blogging and figure out how much time and energy you have to put into it. Then you will have a good jumping off point. Enjoy your sewing and your (maybe) blog!

Debbie's blog

I have a list -- probably a way too long one -- of blogs I read. I love to see other people's projects, and frankly, I love to share my own. None of my friends or family sews, at least not garments from scratch, so I like blogs as a nice way to keep in touch with other seamstresses.

Well ladies you will be happy to know that I do read your blogs daily. I also like Debbie Cooks blog. I love when she sews and share her steps and progress. I am going to start to blog daily. Nothing time consuming but just documenting. Maybe then I will sew more. Right now I m sewing a skirt, it isn't turning out, bad fabric choice. should I just pitch or finish....I only paid $1.50 her yard.

Mary, Using Blogger, or a similar platform, makes setup easy. If you are still interested in blogging, I would be happy to help you.

I blog for myself, and then for the camaraderie from others with similar interests. It's a wonderful way to maintain my creativity and enthusiasm. I love sharing with others, and reading about what they are doing. I don't always comment, but do try to read every day.

I love reading the sewing blogs too. In the past, I didn't really think I would want to have a blog and I thought it would be so complicated. But recently decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it was very simple to set up! Now to see if I keep up with it. my blog
