I recently got a back issue of Threads Magazine and read Jean Haas' method of copying clothes with tape. I was really intrigued and want to learn more. I see that she has a CD of the method and wonder if any of you has it and what you thought of it? Specifically, since the CD describes copying a pair of pants--and I rarely sew pants--is there enough on the CD that I could use the method for copying tops and dresses? Or is this method best suited for pants?

I tried her method and did not have any luck with it. I know other members who tried this method and did. I think it depends on the type of pants you are trying to copy such as the size of the pants and the style.

If the pants are really old they could be stretched and would not give you a very good copy.

I have used masking tape to copy details of pockets onto other patterns

Did you try googling this method to see if any bloggers have written about it? I think I have seen some blogs about using tape to copy clothing.

Thanks, Woggy. I did a search and found a few more details. It just sounds like such a good idea. I'm still looking for the best way to copy my favorite tops. I guess it's pretty much trial and error.

I have the total set of DVDs but have only worked on the top which covers the hips also. I hope to do the pants in the future. I do think that her instructions are very easy to follow but you need one person or two to precut the tape (use Ace hardware duct tape, don't use the cheap stuff) and one person to wrap the person. Our ASG group did this as a two part workshop with about 9 of our members. I missed the second part of the workshop but hope to complete that part soon.
