Date: 1/24/12 1:56 PM I had a momentary lapse of reason and was about to sell my oldest FW when I realized I have 1935, 1945 and 1955 models.
The insanity passed and they are all safely tucked away in their cases.
Did Singer make FW in 1965? |

Date: 1/24/12 3:59 PM that's not as bad as actually throwing one away. Back in the early 80's was cleaning out a closet and saw the old black case I had seen my entire childhood, my aunts little black sewing machine my then late mother had inherited. Who knew? I got rid of it. My mother never sewed. And I wasn't sewing at the time didn't even think about it. Still kicking myself over that one. |

Date: 1/24/12 6:08 PM OH Sewwolf....not a good story...but I can relate to other collectibles that I had to sell or get rid of because of moving.
I also believe the 1965 Featherweight was the white/green one. ------ MyAnn

Date: 1/24/12 9:32 PM I think the last year of production was 1964, but I stand to be corrected :) ------ Viking D1, Viking 1+, Singer 503 Rocketeer, Singer 66-16 Centennial, Viking 910, Janome 1000cpx, Singer 221,221K, 222K, Singer 15-91 |

We forgive you.. anyone can have a temporary moment of insanity now and then.. No harm was done here.. and I am sure you will never have those horrible thoughts again.. now that you are aware of the damage that might have happened..
Sewwolf however.. we are thinking of locking her up at the funny farm and throwing away the key to her sewing case.

Date: 1/25/12 10:01 AM I know it's awful. I was in one of my periods of non sewing and was too young (22) and stupid at the time to realize you don't throw away old sewing machines. That's like I left all my touch and sew accessories in one of our early apartments. didn't realize until 2 years later when I went to pull out my sewing machine to sew for daughter. At least has my multi purpose foot and my zig zag cam in. I was able to later replace everything from ebay and local machine repair guy. Now I take very good care of my preciouses (thing gollum here) and would never left or lose anything. |

Date: 1/25/12 10:38 AM I threw out my beloved grandmother's Touch and Sew, from the early-mid 1960's. She traded in a treadle for it. I was told the T&S wasn't worth servicing, that the cams wouldn't possibly be OK, that it was junk. I wish I had verified that for myself, because now I'll always wonder. I treasure Grandma's things even more now that she's been gone 4 years. I threw it out before she died. It was one of 2 Singers I learned on. Don't know what became of the one I had as a preteen and teen. I do have some of her furniture, sewing box and supplies, scraps, knitting tools, jewelry, china, cabled afgans, and many other meaningful keepsakes. Considering how many sewing machines I now have, it seems even more stupid to have thrown out one that we used together. I also passed on her china cabinet, when it was offered, as I had no place for it. I repent by using scraps of double fold binding and hem tape that she meticulously saved. If I even just use a bit for a hanging loop for my kids' PJs, then her effort it saving it wasn't wasted :). ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |

Date: 1/25/12 1:44 PM I have a Singer Touch and Sew 778 my sis brought for me in high school, by then it was just the two us. I think it was like $250 back that it was like probably $1,000 but she got it for me. I loved it. It has yellow and has signs of wear but I will never part with it. Especially since I lost her also in 2003. |
