Prewashing double-face cotton without it separating It's not the sewn together type

As it is made of two loosely woven cotton voiles, it will shrink a fair bit so I will need to wash a dry it a couple of times in advance. As the two layers are not sewn together am I concerned that they will come apart in the wash as they shrink. Could anyone give me some advice on how to proceed?
