Date: 1/27/12 10:13 PM Is a vintage Singer JB648093 worth acquiring? Someone has offered it to me, but I don't know anything about antique/vintage machines. Is this considered a Featherweight? |

Date: 1/27/12 10:23 PM That looks like a serial number, indicating 1936 as the year of manufacture. Can you describe the machine? Is there tension knob on the front or left side? There may be a model number above the JB number...like 201 or 15-91. A Featherweight would be small, with a fold up table to the left of the needle, fit in a small case and it would have 221k on the front. |

Date: 1/27/12 10:39 PM Your machine was built in Singer's St Jean's, Quebec factory. No serial number records survived which determine age or model. As Karen notes, the JB numbers commenced in 1936, long before featherweights were produced in Canada. Also, if you can't carry it with one hand, it definitely is not a FW. If you can post a pic of it somewhere, we can likely identify it definitively. I suspect it will be some flavour of 15, 127, or 128. These were the models in production in Canada in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Note, 201s were never made in Canada.

Date: 1/29/12 2:39 PM That is a Singer 15-91...very nice! I'm sure Jennifer could come up with a good Canadian dollar amount to offer. Here is the picture from the listing:
