Date: 1/28/12 4:22 AM As promised here we go ... it is closing on Feb 1st so let's get an earlier start on our gifts for this year. I know it helps me to get encouragement & feedback from others. Also I love to hear what other people are making for Christmas gifts & other gifts too. ....... So are ready ? ....... Find those needles & hooks, open up that bin of stashed yarn & let's see how we do this year.........
I am getting ready to start on socks for DH. I am very slow at knitting socks so if I start soon I hope to get a few pair done up by his Birthday (December) & Christmas. ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 1/28/12 4:36 PM OK, I have 1 honey cowl I just finished up in the gift bin. I just started a very lacy, light weight scarf of alpaca/silk. The stitches are so tiny I think this will take me to Christmas. I did start one of the ribbon scarves for when I get tired of the lacey one. ------ Karen

Date: 1/29/12 9:04 AM I just started working on this blanket on Friday night. I figure if I can get a little over 2 squares done a month I will have that blanket done by December. The knitting isn't hard, it's just going to be time consuming. This blanket will be for DH, he's seen me working on it already so it won't be a surprise. ------ I'm finally a blogger!

Date: 1/29/12 11:09 AM Great going Karen........ Are you putting the gifts like in a rubbermaid container or ???? I was thinking this year I would put them in a rubbermaid container too easy to loose track of bags & such. ............ What are you doing with your items? ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 2/1/12 1:25 PM My goal this year is to use up my yarn stash. I have about 4 bins full of yarn. For the most part I plan to make blankets to donate to a local homeless shelter at the end of the year. So I'll probably end up with a variety of rainbow blankets.
I have a full tote of cotton yarn. I'm thinking I will try to make some type of pot holders or hot pads for the women in my women's group at church for mother's day gifts. I remember years ago having a pattern for some neat hot pads that called for crocheting around wooden rings but I could never find the wooden rings. Maybe I'll see if I still have that pattern in my stash. -- Edited on 2/1/12 1:26 PM -- |

I was wearing one on Thanksgiving that I'd made and had so many compliments and "can i have it"s that I just decided to make a bunch for Christmas gifts. I think I made 15 or 20 between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I lost count because many of them didn't make it til Christmas. If somene saw me working on one they wanted one so I'd just let them choose one from the stash. |

Date: 2/2/12 11:10 AM Because I joined the 25 Weeks group on Yahoo I learned the best way to do things is kit each project in ziploc bags and as each is finished put it in the plastic bin for finished projects. Yes, it is like a Rubbermaid bin but clear. Some of the nicer things I do put in ziplocs as I don't want them to get snagged or dirty.
This way no matter what the reason needing a gift I will have things stored up. The trick is to not let all my sisters in there to see what is finished. By the time Christmas comes around I will have nothing left. ------ Karen

Date: 2/2/12 12:01 PM CraftAddict, I got the same reaction when I wore the honey cowl. I can see this will be something I will make a lot of as it is very quick to do and it was FREE on Ravelry. I made it out of Pima Cotton in 3 colors and it is just beautiful. My first one I cast on 160 but I think I will make it longer next time.
Oh, and it was my first time using circular needles and I had to take it clear apart as I twisted it. The second time around I was able to keep it straight. ------ Karen
