Yesterday I was in a store and tried on a cute top. I've been looking for a pattern like it. It was sleeveless, lightweight, cut on the bias. It flared out a bit at the hips, was fitted at the top. If you know of a pattern like this, even if it has sleeves, that would be fine, I can figure out how to make it sleeveless. Thanks for the help.

This is an out-of-print pattern for a bias-cut top, size small, with various neckline and sleeve options. It would be easy to flare it a bit just by using a French Curve on the side seams.

Here is the result of an ebay search for patterns for bias-cut tops. The search results include a fair amount of patterns for bias cut skirts, etc, but if you read them all, there are really some patterns just for bias tops.

If you know of a simple, straight-grain pattern that is similar to what you have in mind, Marcy Tilton's bias tips here include instructions for adapting the pattern to bias.

This is a fine article, and I recommend reading it several times to get a lot of good info about bias from it.

Hi, there! Have a look at Butterick 5138, which is bias cut, has bust darts, and comes with or without sleeves. You could flare it out a bit more at the hip if you wanted. Depending on your fabric, I suggest cutting 1-2 inch seam allowances, then marking the seam lines while the pattern is still attached. Since it's only two pieces, that's not as onerous as it sounds. Good luck! Linda

There is a Burda pattern for a top that is bias front and on-grain back. It is quite old, but still in print.
