Date: 2/1/12 8:11 AM In my first mystery bundle I received a black with very tiny white dots very sheer some sort of what to me is a polyester chiffon fabric. I've got a black camisole that I could wear underneath it but any suggestions on what to make out of it? Awhile back I made Butterick 5355 with the raglan sleeves and ooohhh I thought I looked like a linebacker! I can't do those kind of sleeves! Any suggestions? -- Edited on 2/1/12 8:14 AM -- |

Date: 2/1/12 11:12 AM Have you seen any of the ideas on Marci Tilton's site? She combines and overlays sheers and solids with with seemingly happy abandon. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct. |

Date: 2/3/12 2:57 PM I always love the look of a loose wrap blouse in sheer over a cami. There are a couple in past issues of Burda magazine that I like--09-2010-111 and 02-2009-123. ------ http://theslapdashsewist.blogspot.com

2007: purchased 115+, sewed 105+
So close to parity, yet so far
Trying again in 2008
Yards purchased: 133
Yards sewn: Somewhere around 95
2009? I give up |

Date: 2/5/12 7:46 PM I am currently making V1245 in a silk chiffon. It would work equally well in a poly chiffon. To deal with the sheerness of the fabric I have underlined the bodice front and back so I don't have to bother with a cami. I chose to underline in a plain colored chiffon that matched my fashion fabric. My fabric colour is very dark so this will give enough coverage. You could also underline in a light cotton.
Don't forget about Lina Merrins great tip for treating chiffon with gelatine to make it easier to handle! It is on a thread here somewhere regarding sewing with chiffon. If you can't find it, sing out and I will track it down. I used it on this project and it has been great.

Date: 2/5/12 8:15 PM jenleeC,
I went through a couple of weeks ago and earmarked some great threads for sewing with chiffon, including the first one to include Lena's famous gelatin tip.
Find the earmarked threads by searching messages for these two words linked together with no space in between
chiffon thread
you will not need the name of the poster, that can be left blank.
---------------------------------------------
Better yet, Lena's gelatin idea is so spectacular, I inserted a keyword just for her idea. Search these three words linked together with no space in between the words.
stabilizer gelatin thread
Same thing, search in messages, do not enter a poster's name, leave that blank.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The explanation for what I call future search terms can be found here

Date: 2/5/12 10:28 PM I noticed you had done this and I thought it was a great idea! Thank you for taking the time to make the search process more effective. The longer I am around on the boards the more I realize the same questions get asked over and over! ------ Jenny, Perth, WA |
