Where should I go tomorrow (Sat) to buy scissors?

Well, Greenberg and Hammer is closed. The other place I know is Daytona Trim (unless I was at Pacific) but I don't remember seeing dressmaker scissors there. Any other suggestions for a Saturday afternoon?

In case you're wondering, both my Ginger scissors and my Fiscars have nicks in them (a consequence of living with a 3 year old) and I'm hoping to cut a new dress out over the weekend. I can't take having to use either one anymore.

Thanks!
Leu

Oh, I just saw a review for Westpfal, but I'm not sure yet whether they're open on Saturdays.

Westphal is closed on Saturdays. I think you can buy scissors at Sil Thread and they're open on Saturday.

Westphal is closed on Shabbos? Oh crud!
(sorry, Lord, I didn't mean it the way it sounded...)

And now, a moment of silence for Greenberg and Hammer.

They call it "progress".

Also also! Take the nicked scissors to Westphal! They will grind them beautifully and make them like new!

Love Westphal: their grinder is the best in NY and they're all sweeties over there!

There are a couple of notions places on 38th and 39th street that are open on Saturday. Steinlauf and Stoller is closed, and they're the only ones that I'm sure have scissors. I would be surprised if none of the others did. Pacific Trims has some tools and may have scissors. I know you don't want to just wander around, but I'd bet that a trim store with the rulers and marking things in the window would have scissors.

FIT bookstore might be good, too. You could find out if they're open Saturday.

Manhattan Wardrobe Supplies is now open Saturday.

If you have time, buy some new Kai scissors mail order. They are the best.
Hide them from the child and husband.

I second the KAI scissors. I trained my kids and husband well. Touch Mommy's scissors? You must be kidding.

Thank you, all.
I ended up with a pair of inexpensive dressmaker Singer scissors from Vardhman, Inc. They're light and smooth and they'll work until I can get my Gingher's to Westfphal or investigate these Kai scissors. I was surprised that my options seemed to be something in the $15 range or something over $60 with not a lot in between. I don't mind spending the $$ but felt so uneducated I decided to put off a bigger purchase until I know more about what will last, what can be sharpened, etc.

Thanks!

Leu
