Date: 2/4/12 12:17 PM As I'm posting this, the bid on this eBay listing is up to $46 and change. I cannot imagine why, although I note that one of the bidders has a feedback rating of 6.
Seriously, what is it that's so valuable? The pocket curve template is available at Nancy's Notions for like $6. I have one of the bound buttonhole makers, that I got (on eBay) for $1.
So it must be the Prym(R) His/Hers Fly Front Zipper Guide. -- Edited on 2/4/12 12:25 PM -- |

Date: 2/4/12 1:31 PM Bound buttonhole makers I have found at thrift stores, but the welt pocket maker, nope. They seem to be more difficult to find so I'm guessing that that is what brought up the price, but still----! ------ I have not yet begun to procrastinate |

Could be the seller is bidding it up. or having a friend do it.. but still..........
Once in a great while you will have a couple of bidders that live so far out in the country .. or in an area without nearby stores.. But still........
It would not surprise me to find out the item is never paid for by the bidding winner.. by the time it comes to bid. the buyer will most likely have researched the pricing on it.. and not pay. we shall see.. |

Date: 2/4/12 2:34 PM Nothing. Not even considering that they may be bidding up their own item, to try to jack up the price on it, one person has bid 5 times, or got the price automatic raised, the one listed as "0". And only one other person bidding against them at all. Apparently they just either want it, or what someone else said. There is no figuring out people's reasoning for what they do on ebay sometimes at all! As everyone can do just whatever they want.
Maybe it's really a contraband deal or money laundering even If it gets up into the hundreds, and really wacky, then maybe I would guess something like that even.
But you never know, it's wacky just because ebay is just like that. Another explaination could be is maybe someone borrowed like things from someone, then lost them, had a fight about, is on the "outs" with that person because of it, and now needs to replace them , to make amends or something like that even. In that case, maybe they don't even care at all, what something might cost them at all?
The prym thing is not worth anything. And the pocket shapers are just pieces of metal, and can't image anyone wanting them that much at all. But, I think when http://www.clotilde.com used to sell that welt pocket maker tool though, they were not actually cheap at all, and I think they did use to cost at least $30 or $39 or even way more, even back then, and since thy no longer sell them, probably why someone wants one off ebay now.
Since we are talking about it here now, it will probably jack up the price even higher now, is my guess. |

Date: 2/4/12 4:13 PM You're right Tom--it's the zipper guide. Prym/Dritz no longer makes these, and I'm sure the seller is trying to make it sound like it's an antique. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Jean-Charles Boisset, Winemaker

Subject: Help me figure out whats up with this eBay listing Date: 2/4/12 4:45 PM I would search completed auctions and see what they went for previously.
btw I once had one of those and I have no clue where it went, which means I didn't really like it/use it that much. -- Edited on 2/4/12 4:47 PM -- ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 2/4/12 5:10 PM I've got one of those and, believe me, it is NOT worth $46. Methinks the seller is "puffing" the price. |

Subject: Help me figure out whats up with this eBay listing Date: 2/5/12 9:02 AM It could be a bidding war.
I will pay the going rate plus my travel cost if there is an item I think I really need - this is not one of them!

Date: 2/5/12 12:38 PM No need to buy this - You can just tear off the inside flap on the Coats & Clarks Zipper sleeve and use that as a zipper sewing guide. Lot cheaper than $46 ------ Kemish |
