Date: 2/7/12 2:37 PM Did anyone ever get this machine? I didn't see any reviews on it. I didn't really like it when it first came out. But have since studied it and it looks like a pretty awesome machine. I would never put out the kind of money they are probably asking for this but was just wondering. |

Date: 2/7/12 6:52 PM I have it . I felt the same as you. Not terribly impressed at the launch, but kept reading about it as more info became available and decided that it's actually a really great machine. I decided to purchase it mainly for the sewing features. There's only so much they could improve with the embroidery, it was already awesome.
On the sewing side, it's all the little things that add up to a big step up for the 12K. the lighting is truly like the light of 1000 suns in a dark room, the harp space is fantastic, the 9mm feed is great. I didn't think 2mm could make much of a difference, but it really does when trying to make decorative stitches. No problems so far with fabric being eaten with that large hole, either. The customization of stitches is extensive too (vertical mirror as well as horizontal in addition to length width tension etc), and the buttonholes are a great addition as you can adjust both the width of the slit and the stitching.
I've already made use of the differential feed when making a minky robe. I like the dual feed, although I have nothing to compare it to except a walking foot. I've also made use of the little light that swings out along with the magnifying glass even though I really didn't think I'd ever use either!
I also like that they included accessories that traditionally have been bought separately, like the straight stitch plate. My only complaint about this is they didn't just give you a second bobbin cover or a straight stitch foot (though it's an optional accessory already available).
I looked around for another sewing only machine that would have these features, because it was truly the sewing side of this one that attracted me. In the end no other machine could truly offer everything this one does in one machine. I'm not pretending I saved money, but I don't feel bad spending it because I'm too busy lovin' stitching on it!
I guess it's time to write a review, huh? ;) |

Date: 2/8/12 8:45 AM I agree with you not too much more they could do with embroidery except make a bigger hoop size. Since I'm a quilter I would love the acufeed and bigger harp area. The wider stitch would be nice too and more editing options. On the 10001 editing the dec stitches is limited. That's one of the reason I've kept both my Singer CXL and Bernina 1630 for the wider stitches. Glad you enjoying it. Does it have the machine quilting package the 11000se has? |

Date: 2/8/12 8:57 AM There's a yahoo group just for this machine. Just today, it had a link to an ad for a transport case for the Horizon 12000. Looked good. How wrong would it be to get one for my Bernina 820? -- Edited on 2/8/12 8:58 AM -- ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |

Date: 2/8/12 9:15 AM I was wondering how did it do sewing on knits? Did it skip any stitches? Does it take the .jef format?
Thanks. ------ Rebecca Pitts

Date: 2/8/12 9:20 AM I haven't quilted a whole lot, but it has the straight stitch plate, an extension table, the dual feed, and the quilting foot with the three interchangeable clear heads and of course tons of quilting stitches. You can also free-motion in straight or zigzag, and the variable zigzag with the knee lifter. It also has a 1/4in stitch and a 7mm stitch, which is (I guess) an important distinction. The larger hoops have the magnetic strips already on them, so I think you could quilt with them straightaway. It seems like they'll be coming out with the equivalent of an accuquilt hoop soon because there's one listed in the new digitizer software. I believe it will be 9x9. |

Date: 2/8/12 9:25 AM It sewed like butter on all knits I've put into it, including handknits. I expected problems with the *&$# minky, but not even a little hiccup, not even over sewn and serged seams. I've also made some slippers out of heavy fabric that's faux suede on one side and fur on the other. No hesitation there, either. In fact every time I expect a little trouble, I've only had smooth operation and no shortening of stitches over seams.
Edited to add that yes, it takes the .JEF format. They have introduced a new one called .JPX that I think is more about the Digitizer software, but all .JEF's work. -- Edited on 2/8/12 9:26 AM -- |

Date: 2/8/12 9:59 AM I also have one, andhave been a happy owner since Oct when it came out. I absolutely love it along with the 7700. I use the 7700 for the drop down walking foot, its a pain to change on the 12000.
Hubby uses it more than I do mainly for embroidering home decor stuff and his pillow making hobby. The software is easy to use and understand, and I also have the Embrid in addition to the Janome Software. The Janome software is easier for me.
I have sewn knits on it (no issues), and the dreaded Minky as well. I have made a bridal veil with english netting, without any problems.
I was able to even embroider on the Minky, without issues that I had on the 350E.
The stitching is perfect everytime! -- Edited on 2/8/12 10:00 AM -- |
