So, I finally uploaded pictures of my sewing area. I would love ideas for organizing. It's a super small space. I can only use two walls. This is in my laundryroom, by the way.

Sewing Area

The wall where my sm and serger is around 9 feet. Actually can't use all of it because the shelves take some of the space. My dh put up shelves and that is about 3 feet wide. Except for the very top shelf. Height on that wall is approx. 7 feet.

Any ideas of making it look more neat? Or am I expecting too much? I know it's small. But don't get me wrong: I am grateful to have any space at all. Even if it's in the laundryoom. I don't care. It's mine. Especially with having two kids, do I appreciate having my place to create.

Any thoughts??

Maybe add a small table against the wall after you've taken the bottom shelf down? You can butt the end of your sewing desk leaf against it and the file cabinet will fit under the table. Store the largest bins under the table beside the file cabinet. This will give you a little more work surface and you probably could sit the serger on the table. Think L shaped work space. Do you have a closet in the house to store some of the larger items that are on the shelves?

Thank you for your help. Great ideas!

Since we live in an older home, there is no additional closet space. We're bulging at the seams. No pun intended.

I have a tiny house, intentionally, of about 500 sq. ft. We go up the walls...and so does my sewing stuff. I have the corner in the living room, and the corner next to it in my bedroom (3'with the machine and serger, shelving, some fabric, attachments, books-doorway-3' with my ironing board, dress form, electric machine and shelves with trim, etc.).

Fabric is stored in the tiny loft, and in tubs that act as our nightstands, patterns are also in the loft, unless I have them in queue to use...and I have NO closets at all.

Our house is well over 100 and what is closet space? Only in the bedrooms in this house, so I understand. I can send you a link to my sewing room and even the old smaller one. Maybe give you some ideas. Can you PM? If not, I can put the links up if you want to my Flickr account. By the way,
when we first moved here 7 years ago, I was in the laundry room, which was a covered porch. I had 8' of wall space and a bit behind me maybe 4' and the room was only 6 1/2' wide. Sewed with winter coat, hat and gloves on in the winter since there was no heat in the room.

What are your goals for the space? You say "organizing," but it looks like you do have a place for everything, and everything in its place already. Do you want more efficient access to your supplies? Or for the room to have a more cohesive look (less visual clutter)?

If we knew what's currently bothering you about the space, we'd have lots more suggestions!

I just tried to PM. No show. I am not a paid member, so that must be why. Would love to see your sewing rooms!

Stirwatersblue,

Good questions! You are making my wheels turn.

Yes, a less cluttered look would be good. I really don't have space in the rest of the house to store things. As I said before, small house translates into no closet space.

Thank you!

I crammed a lot into this space!

Old Sewing Room

Now I have a lot more room. I no longer have the computer in the room and put a small design wall up where the Amish wall hanging is.

Hi, I loved both your old and new sewing rooms! Could you tell me the area of the room itself?ihave a 9ft by 10 ft bedroom, that has an L-shaped desk ,along 1 wall, a bookshelf. plus the sewing machine, serger fabrics, table, and ironing board. I also store my filing boxes for documents in this room. It would be nice to have the neat appearance of your rooms. Thanks
