Date: 2/8/12 1:40 PM Title says it all... He and his girlfriend of four years got engaged right after the New Year! Yay! My boys have been asked to be ushers; they will be 12 and 15 by then.
The wedding will be early September 2013. This gives me a lot of time to plan what to wear!
My brother is nineteen years younger than me. So, I'm actually old enough to be his mom! But I don't want to look like mother of the bride. His mom, my step mom, will do that any way. :p
It will be a traditional Catholic church ceremony and reception at a popular, Chicagoland Italian restaurant (with banquet rooms).
Of course, I want to sew what I wear. I want it to be tasteful, flattering and do not want it to clash from wedding colors or stand out (I don't know what wedding colors will be yet).
I'm thinking a vintage "something" that has a little bolero to wear in church then transition to the evening reception. Bolero can then be removed. With the boys in the wedding party, we will be involved in the activities, pics, etc. all day.
Brainstorming welcome.
------ A bad day in the sewing room is better than a good day at the office.
Getting through life, one stitch at a time.

Date: 2/8/12 2:11 PM How about something like B 5674?
It would look elegant in a shiny fabric or two-tone as the photo.
Plus you could wear it again, unlike many of the ugly ready-made
gowns seen for MOB etc. |

Date: 2/8/12 9:46 PM That's happy news. What a fun thing to plan for!
I don't have any suggestions for patterns. I think if I were in your situation I would spring for some really gorgeous, special fabric. Then I would make something fairly simple, but flattering, so I would have to worry about lots of details going right while I'm making it. |

Date: 2/9/12 0:06 AM What can I say, I'm jealous....a big Catholic wedding in Chicago with the reception at the Italian restaurant!!! This is something that most of my Texas friends cannot comprehend. We lived just outside of Chicago when I was confirmed - what a party; well for the adults, at least, afternoon into the wee hours. We lived in Milwaukee when I had my First Communion - what a party; well for the adults, at least, afternoon into the wee hours, again. There's a theme here. It's wonderful that your brother is getting married and I know that you have to be very excited. But, face it, you'd have a great time at this wedding if it was the neighbor kid from four blocks over that was getting married.
I've got an idea but we need some hints. How formal will the wedding be and had you determined a preferred dress length? Dancing?
Congratulations to your family, seems like a big year for all of you.
------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct. |
