Date: 2/10/12 3:23 AM The Singer website used to have a link where if you had the serial number, it listed what SM model it went to. The link is now gone.
When did this happen? And I can't help wondering what their reasoning is for doing this.
On the website contact information I sent them an email a few days ago, asking why they took the link away. Not a word from them and I'm not holding my breath either.
Now the website only gives the year and nothing else.
Singer serial numbers
At the bottom of the page it says:
Quote: For further information, contact SINGER® Consumer Affairs at 1-800-4-SINGER (1-800-474-6437).
I can only imagine what a pain in the neck it would be to call an 800 number to find out more information on a model number.
I wonder if complaining would do any good, since why are they going to care about people who like their vintage machines and not their new machines. ------ Martha |

I will make sure I bookmark that.
It's only once in a while that I want to look a serial number up. But when needed is such important information.
Since all the old posts always refer back to Singer website, seems like there needs to be a way to get the information out that ISMACS has it.
It certainly was a shock to find it gone from Singer website. And frankly was the only reason I ever went there. Where the old link was is now a link to review a current product. As if I'm looking up a vintage machine I want to review a new machine. ------ Martha |

Me too! I hate it when sites do that. I'm half tempted to copy all the data from ISMACS just in case they decide to get rid of it also. ------ Doo-doo-DOO-doo, Doo-doo-DOO-doo......

I should be getting something productive done, instead I've been having fun browsing through their website. It would be easy to "waste" hours on that site.
I was browsing through the different Singer models with pictures.
I can't believe in around 1914 Singer was already making a type of embroidery machine with 6 heads linked together. The designs were done by pantograph. Another early industrial machine was doing trimming of fabric while it stitched. Really amazing. ------ Martha |

I just got a 66 with cabinet for $35 that needs some care that had been in the seller's family since 1951 and she wanted it to go to a good home. Originally that is what sent me to the Singer site as I was trying to figure out if the machine was a 66 or 99 from the picture. She was moving to a smaller place and had no room for it, but was emotionally attached to it. It looks like this machine as had a fair amount of use over the years as it is far from pristine condition.
This machine needs a good home as it looks like it hasn't been used or cleaned in a long time, she no longer had the manual or various attachments. She said some years back it had been serviced by a sewing machine shop in town, he must have been the one who rewired it.
Anyway this will be a good machine to practice cleaning techniques etc on. Plus I need at some point to refinish the cabinet for my 201 and I could put it in this cabinet white working on it's cabinet. ------ Martha |

Date: 2/10/12 4:45 PM Thank you for posting the Ismacs information. It's very much appreciated! I too was wondering why Singer took that down. Jane ------ "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."

Date: 2/10/12 8:03 PM Just incase ISMACS decides to get rid of the Singer serial number/model reference, I copied it to my computer. I found a free program, HTTrack, that mirrors a site to your computer. Much, much faster than going through and manually copying each page. I haven't gone through every serial number page, but it looks to be complete.
Now I just need to back up my computer... ------ Doo-doo-DOO-doo, Doo-doo-DOO-doo......
