I'm working on Simplicity 4465, the "Amazing Fit" jacket. I've gone through all the fitting steps, and discovered that in order to get the right fit, I need to taper back and side seams to 3/8" below the waistline. When I did the pin fitting, it worked well, but now that I've sewn it, I am getting some puckering (actually, more like a "bump") at my back waist where the tapering begins. I'm guessing that this is because I taper too quickly/dramatically. Does that sound right?

I'll try to post some pics later, but it's difficult to get good pictures of my own backside

We'd need to see pictures to know for sure, but what (I think/it sounds like) you're describing can also be caused by seams that aren't trimmed or snipped yet. If your waist narrows and then your hips/bum are a little rounder, the jacket may be trying to curve over your bum, but the seam allowances are resisting. Snipping into the curve will release them and allow everything to fit more smoothly.

That's just a first guess based on the picture in my head, though!

Hmm, interesting! That makes sense.. I'm used to having to clip for princess seams and the like, but hadn't thought about having to do so on a tapered seam. I'll try to get my daughter to take some pictures and post them tonight to give you a clearer picture of what I'm talking about. Thanks!
