Fashions for petite women over 50 What's in now?

I could stand to lose 20 pounds...mostly in my butt and belly since I hit 54. I hate wearing pants anymore because I feel it draws attention to my big butt but then I think long tunics that hide my butt make my legs look even shorter. I have too much of a pooch to wear blouses tucked in. Yuck! What's a figure like mine supposed to wear?

Make sure that they fit; not snug, not loose. What you have is there, clothes that try to hide it or don't fit will not serve you well. Besides if you hide some things you'll most likely end up also hiding your best assets. Skip the tunics and go for an unstructured jacket over the shell. Find the magic length that reaches just to the bottom of your tummy or a smidge longer. It will make your hips look slimmer and won't accent your bottom by upholstering it. Marci Tilton has some designs that almost look a little boxy but have a nice drape and will be flattering. Loes Hinse has some jackets/tops that will be very flattery to you. Pick up your vibrancy or contrast in your shell or tank. Use fluid fabrics and, generally, avoid too much contrast between your jacket and pants/skirts. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct.

I love what you have been sewing-especially the shirt and jeans combo in January. I have been wearing straight legged pants, or retro flares, and knit tops with a jacket or cardi. Today I was installing shelves and am wearing brown jeans (thrifted), a brown and maroon Sorbetto, and a maroon matte jersey cardi (S2288). I haven't seen any recent reviews on it though. I wonder what fabric would look nice?

Loes Hinse tuxedo jacket I love the creamy textured fabric in the first picture but I would definitely try for something more interesting and less ladylike. I mean if I were to make this for myself. What are you planning to pair with it? Nice, long, lean collar. The extended line of the band going all the way down to the center bottom front. Even the little slits on the sleeves lengthen the line. I'm thinking that long shawl collar will draw your eye up making me look taller. One can only hope! I just hope it has enough fitting to it and doesn't just hang on me.
