Date: 2/16/12 9:09 PM OMG!!!!
I am depressed. I just built up my dress form to look like me. .
I know having kids and nursing changed my body, I'm in my mid-40's and I'm tall so I've been getting away with more weight but this is just sad.
I am absolutely determined that my double's body shape will improve. I've been walking more and I eat fairly well but there's always room for improvement.
Does everyone have a shock like this...something like hearing your own recorded voice for the first time?
Ugh. |

Date: 2/16/12 9:43 PM Oh yes. I've fittied a garment on my duct tape form only for it to not fit me. Not even close. I'm talking about being inches away from buttoning up a blouse. I've given up on losing weight to get to my form size. I just put a sweater on it to account for the extra padding on me. I eat well. I walk my dog 2-3 miles a day, everyday rain or shine. I mow the lawn, clean the pool, garden and a bunch other active things. Nothing helps. |

Date: 2/16/12 10:02 PM Did you remember to put a nice necklace and some earrings on the dress form to draw the eye up>
Seriously, you know how some clothing just looks terrible without a body; it only stands to reason that some dummies would look terrible without clothing. At least buy your dummy some pretty undergarments. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct. |

Date: 2/17/12 6:42 AM When I gave my adult niece a tour of my sewing room, she exclaimed "How nice you have a dress form of your daughter so you can make her maternity clothes!" (she was living 2000 miles away, and 7 months pregnant). "Uh, no. That's me."
I dressed it in something modest and hid it in the corner...... |

Date: 2/17/12 8:34 AM Absolutely. When I first got my dress form and started to pad it according to my measurements I felt depressed. My dress form always has clothes on, especially when company might go into my sewing room! ------ Kathy7661 |

Date: 2/17/12 8:36 AM This is why I have had the necessary tape to make myself a double for several years now and its still in the cupboard. I've never quite got to the point of accepting that actually I probably won't get back to former glories. ------ so many patterns, clamouring to be sewn

Date: 2/17/12 9:50 AM I had an honest (I think) friend look at mine and say, "there is no way you are actually as big as that." Helped a bit!
I am inspired by the low carb thread, but don't seem to be able to quite get myself there, so I have been taking some advice from Dolly Parton from way back when she lost a bunch of weight. She told some interviewer something to the effect of "I just had to stop eating like such a dang pig!" She ate everything she wanted any time. Just one or two bites. So instead of 10 crackers and cheese, I have one. If I feel hungry, which honestly, most of the time I am not, just craving food, I have herbal tea or a big plate of steamed veggies. On most diets you can have all sorts of veg more or less "free" so I have been having broccoli, cucumber, celery (with a little cottage cheese and/or sunflower seeds - a little . It has been about a week and I feel a difference in my clothes, though I have not weighed myself. ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

Date: 2/17/12 10:05 AM Absolutely. I think there is a shock to look at yourself from outside of your body that takes place when you see a double of your body for the first time. It took a while to adapt to it, but now it's very useful to see how stuff looks on it. I can pin fit a tissue pattern and get a general idea of how the finished garment will look on me without having to waste time and resources sewing a wadder. ------ Marilyn

Date: 2/17/12 11:12 AM I'm feeling better about it now but it was just such a shock. I have a lovely silk bathrobe on her but sheesh! At least she has better posture than I do . |

Date: 2/17/12 11:41 AM I look thinner then what I am, and the baby tore my hourglass shape out of proportion to a vase. So I knew going in with mine that my figure was terrible.
My mom did mine, and I'm fussing with it at her house, and my dad looks at it and goes "Wow, when did you get so fat?"
Mine always has fabric draped on it, , either what I am about to work on or what I need to pre treat. It's not to hide it, just with the room, it's as easy to keep it in line of sight. And it's in my bedroom, so it's creepy. |
