Date: 2/18/12 6:59 AM I just saw Viking's newest model called the Tribute on their website. It is a "limited edition" and appears to be something between the top 2 Sapphire models but it has no thread-cutter and no start/stop button. It does have a 10" harp, 138 stithces, hover feature, sewing advisor and dare i say it--a really neat accessory case as a bonus. I don't know how the latest sapphires are faring but this might be a good machine if the quirks have been resolved. The Ambition line has been trouble-free so far. I'm hoping this new model is the next step in the right direction for Viking which was my favorite brand for many years. |

Date: 2/18/12 7:15 AM I saw them at my dealer last weekend. The 140C is basically the same as the Sapphire 855, which was discontinued not too long ago. I wish they would have added LED lighting to it though. As far as the quirks, I believe they have been worked out with the newer series ending in "5". I know quite a few people who have them and are happy with them for the most part.
They also have the 140M which seems to be just a remodel of one of the mechanical Emerald models, maybe the 118.
As for the aesthetics, I do like the dark red though! -- Edited on 2/18/12 7:16 AM -- |

Subject: New Viking Tribute Date: 2/18/12 1:55 PM My first Viking was a red 6460 that I got for Valentines day many years ago, so I'm partial to a red machine. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 2/18/12 7:02 PM Does it make you wonder if this could be the first (or a pilot) for the sapphire replacements? If so, then one will have a cutter most likely. Or it may just be a one-time only "limited edition". I know Viking has done that in the past with low to mid-line models. |

Subject: New Viking Tribute Date: 2/19/12 2:22 PM I think it's weird that you can get soo much more on other brands like Brother, Babylock, & Juki (thread cutter, start-stop, etc etc)..... isn't Viking taking notice? Even Janome only has the thread cutter on a couple models. It's pretty much standard on Brother & Babylock & Juki. And for less money too. |

Date: 2/19/12 9:23 PM Viking has a thread cutter starting on the Sapphire 875 but I believe the machine runs just over $2,000. Also, with Bernina's, you have to go up quite a few models before you get a thread cutter. |
