Date: 2/21/12 6:26 AM Hi,
I would like to make a sailor dress and have come across the most amazing dress by an out of print pattern company, Modes Royale. Does anyone have any suggestions of alternate patterns I could use that would be similar?
The dress is from the 1952 Spring/Summer pattern book and features on the front cover. Here is a few pictures of the dress (it is the strapless one, I don't think I'd make the jacket).
Red Dress with jacket
Navy strapless dress
Thank you for any assistance you can give. |

I can't see the two you posted. ------ Galatians 5:22-23 The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these |

Date: 3/6/12 9:29 PM Cute! It's really just a very basic strapless dress with a full four-gore skirt, and then a wrapped bow detail.
Some somewhat similar patterns:
Vintage Vogue V2902 - not strapless, and the skirt doesn't have the same gore lines, but does fall in a similar circle. You'd just need to add boning to make it strapless, and drape a bow.
Vintage Vogue V9261 is another good option. The bust darts aren't the same, and you'd need to get rid of the front opening and put in a back or side zip. Plus the bow wrap.
Vogue 5811 has a slightly dropped waist, and would need to be shortened, but is otherwise very close to your dress.
Really though, you just need a strapless bodice pattern and a full four-gore skirt. Good luck!
