I just ran across this on a news site. Looks interesting.

Stitched is a fun-filled documentary following three quilters racing to complete their entries for the International Quilt Festival in Houston, the largest quilt show in the nation.

Oh I'd love to see that. Can it be watched online?

It looks like you can buy a DVD and it looks like it will be screened in some cities. I'm sure I'd go see it if it were showing in my city. I don't know yet if I'll buy the DVD.

Its great! I am a member of The Quilt Show and they had it showing there a while back for free for paying members. Its well worth a ticket to the movies or to buy the DVD. I was really glad to see it.

I have had the great pleasure of taking classes with both Hollis Chatelain and Carol Bryer Fallert at Houston Quilt Festival and they were two of my favorite classes ever.

One of the sad things about fiber art is there doesn't seem to be much money to be made selling it so even most of the masters have to teach to make a living. The good side of that, for me, is it makes classes with these artists accessible to even lowly dabblers like me.

I have seen both their 2010 quilts in person, and it is not possible to convey any image in the internet that do them justice. Hollis's quilt Innocence (detail here) is immense. You can barely see it in the detail, but the quilt is loaded with thread-painted images that serve as texture in the boy's face. If I am remembering correctly, Innocence is a whole-cloth quilt painted with thickened fabric dye.

Images of Carol's quilt Feathers in the Wind only hint at her thread art mastery. The curved piecing technique shown in the link was the technique I learned in my class with her and it has become a favorite of mine.
