Date: 2/23/12 6:46 AM Hi,
I'm a metric girl and I'd love it if someone more familar with feet and inches could check through my calcs!
I require two (2) pieces of hide, EACH 14 inches by 28 inches. Total dimensions of require piece is 28 inches by 28 inches. There are 36 inches to a foot (? yes?) so using a bit of a fudge factor (flaws in hide, wobbly edges) lets say I need 1 sq ft? per garment?
Thanks,
Sar's ------ 24th Nov 12 to 28th Nov 13

Date: 2/23/12 7:17 AM No, there are 12 inches in a foot. If you require a total of 28 X 28, that's 784 square inches. A square foot is 12 X 12 or 144 square inches. 784 divided by 144 = 5.444 square feet. So I would say you need at least 5.5 square feet. ------ Singer 66-16. Thanks,
Sar's 1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet (or 36 inches)
So, you require 2 (2) pieces of hide, EACH 392 square inches (or 2.7 square feet)
Total dimensions of required piece is 784 square inches (or 5.4 square feet).
Add to these numbers to figure your fudge factor for flaws and wobbly edges.
Helps?

Date: 2/23/12 7:25 AM Oh yes that's helped and it's also crushed the little happy dance I was doing. Man, it's going to cost me lots of $$$ to get that deer skin, esp when you add in freight from the US!!!
But around 6 sq ft does make more sense.
Thank thank thank you!

Date: 2/25/12 8:22 PM Well yes and no. You can get Deerskin here but the colours are very limited. I was hoping to substitute 'roo or sheepskin but according to my leather supplier, neither are like deerskin. The only colour they have is lime green (erk!). With my original calcs, it was more cost effective to get it from the US. With the new requirements, I will have to look at the costs a fresh.
I'm going to be making full seat riding breeches. A project I have been working my way up to for 15 years. The breech fabric is also going to be expensive and coming from the US too! ------ 24th Nov 12 to 28th Nov 13
