Sew together?

I think there are a couple of places in Costa Mesa or Huntington Beach that if we chip in ($10 or so), we could maybe rent a room for a day and sew together.

This way we wouldn't be spending money (i.e. Fashion District) and we would actually get some sewing done. For those that live further away, it would give you a whole day for your drive in.

Does this sound good to anyone? I can call around to a couple places. I know of Bear's Quilt Shop and somewhere else who's name I can't think of right now.

Piecemakers in Costa Mesa (located at Harbor and Adams) also rents their sewing room to groups. They do have a website (with their contact information) however, I do not know who in their organization you need to speak with, nor their website.

As to meeting up, I think it is a great idea. I know ASG- LA chapter has Sew-In's at least once a quarter and they are a lot of fun. Although, I do end up just talking, talking and more talking and don't get much sewing done

I've been to some ASG sew-ins at the Piecemakers rooms, they worked out well. Matter of fact last one had me sitting with someone who completely inspired my pursuit of an alternate career I'd been toying with (the education has cost me faaaar more than being near the fabric district though! I've now been working 1.5 miles and 6 minutes from Mood L.A. with my beloved F&S down the street and have resisted resisted resisted... )

Where are the LA sew -ins?

The ASG chapter of LA has it's own website: asgla.org where it has all the info about up coming events. The next Sew-In is in April.

The OC chapter of ASG is working on our Fashion Show end of March so everyone is pushing for that. Our big Sew-in is in August at Piecemakers and we usually have one in the Spring, but the Show is keeping us all busy right now.

Hi Cat! I was thinking of you the other day and there you popped up!
Hi Karen! We do take credit for your new career!

I'm here.

Work is FINALLY settling down. So I am trying to get back to a "normal" life.

I'm always up for a sew-in. The OC is a bit far for me, but I do know how to drive.

Okay Piecemakers is $100 for the big room and $75 for the back room. This for a full day. The more people, the less money.

Anyone interested either chime in with date suggestions or PM me. I'm going to check for availability at the end of March and April.

That's really reasonable. If there is 10 of us, that's $10 per person which I think we can do. Kat, find out what dates they have available in April or Mary. I already have March scheduled.

What Sherrill said :)
Ro, of course you should take credit! It is no coincidence that I decided to go both days and no seats by anyone I already knew so had to meet new friends and be inspired! I'm not quite done with the paralegal certification, this job is still marketing as I've done all along. Ironically, for the same industry, in the same building, floor as where I started marketing 30 years ago! Talk about a chance to "go back knowing now what you didn't know then"!!!
