I see many posters using and recommending "Sophia double-knit", but I have no experience with it. Voguefabrics.com has by far the best online color choices. Has anyone used it? Is it worth the price?

It's a nice double-knit, Raye Ann. It's lighter weight than some pontes I've used (it's basically a ponte). It's good for dresses, or a top. You could also use it for pants, but it's not as beefy as some pontes.

I have recently ordered some samples of different winter white fabrics on-line, and three were pontes. Vogue's Sophia is the lightest wt of the three, but very nice. $12.99, as you know and lots of colors. Poly/Rayon/ 3% lycra.

Gorgeous fabrics' was a "Beefy Rayon Jersey" and was called Ivory, but was very dark- almost a light khaki. 94% Rayon/6%lycra, $14.00/yd

I had not realized that pontes are so varied in wt and content until I received these samples. All this is way more info than you asked for! But, I thought it might be helpful for you to order a sample before you buy your yardage.

Mood Fabrics sent a sample of 5%lycra/62%ply/33%rayon. This one is priced at $12/yd.

Thanks to both! It sounds like I may need to order a swatch. I was thinking of a structured dress ( sounds like it may be just right for it), and pencil skirts. It may be a little two lightweight for the skirt I had in mind.
I am glad you both agree that it is a nice fabric, though.

I agree about the different weights of ponte. I've used pontes from different sources and the quality/weight can be all over the place, even from the same source. It can be maddening.

The first time I touched a Sophia (in a local store) I was surprised. Previously, I had used only the beefier pontes and this is definitely lighter weight.

It's a nice quality fabric, Raye Ann, but a swatch is a good idea so you are not surprised.

I've used Sophia for both tops and pants and worn them A LOT - a sample is a good idea so that you can match the weight to the style.

I do love it. heavy weight with good drape. It is really soft. Make sure your pattern can take a heavier fabric, not a lightweight fabric. I made that mistake when I sewed a camisole and it looked a little clunky for the pattern. I like it for a mock-turtle neck and a long skirt and my aunt made a sweater-jacket to wear to work.

By the way, if you go to Voguefabrics.com you get one of those place holder sites. I think you meant voguefabricsstore.com.
